Honestly looking at some stats he hasn't been bad but IMHO I just haven't been impressed. What are your thoughts on this 5th year senior. I think Grant Delprit gets more pub but he deserves it. My point is this I haven't heard shite about him.

Eta: I bumped this for mid season review. I started this thread before the season started.

My mid season take: he is a liability in coverage, takes bad angles on tackles, and gets trucked because he tackles too high.

I would rather see Monroe Harris or Stevens over battle, but who am I to question Aranda.. he got a nice raise for a reason

Delpit is recovering from an injury as well

It's a reason why he came back. He probably didn't have that good of a draft grade. He's not awful by any means, but Eric Monroe is already a better safety and matches up better in man coverage.

My memories of him seem to be of him being out of position alot or missing tackles. Isn't he projected to be our other starting safety? I am just a little concerned because I know Delprit was hurt in the spring game.

Delpit had a broken collarbone which will be completely healed by fall camp if it isn't already healed now. He's fine.

Battle missed so many tackles and took so many bad angles. I have to think we have a more reliable option.

Battle is solid, but Delpit and Monroe both looked better to me.

He’s getting passed by Monroe. You’ll see Stevens on the field more too.

Battle just isn’t as talented as the others. Not a knock, just an honest assumption.

You would rather see 2 players (Harris and Stevens), who haven't done shite with the opportunity they've had to prove themselves, play over Battle (a Senior) who started or has played significant minutes for like the past 3-4 years.

Only the fricking Rant.

I just pulled up the projected depth chart at strong safety

1.John Battle
2. Eric Monroe
3. Jacoby Stevens

I missed the spring game due to work did anyone standout at SS?

Monroe was good and he looked better in the minutes he played last season. I just don't see monroe being off the field very much, but I could be dead wrong.

I'm actually a battle fan too.

Monroe had the second most tackles (8) and a few pass deflections.

Battle had a an INT off Brennan.

I’ve never been a fan of this reasoning. Best player should be on the field.
Personally I think Monroe has shown more upside.

I see Battle "starting" at the beginning of the season at least but Monroe getting most of the playing time and ultimately starting by the end of the season.

And I like Battle too. Who wasn't as highly recruited as the other safeties we have so you won't see anyone here give him the benefit of the doubt. Recruiting rankings are king to the Rant.

Way to completely disregard 1/2 of my post AND pretend I included Monroe as part of my point.

I don’t think it has anything to do with recruiting rankings.
It’s about who’s looked better.

Like I said, it’s not a knock, I like Battle, but Monroe has looked better. IMO

Calm down. Your entire post was about my exact response. And regardless I chose to reply to that part, because you weren’t even talking to me.

Dude, relax. You’re coming out swinging and I’m calmly giving an opinion. An opinion. Just an opinion.

I agree. I also believe we will see a 3-3-5 set with 3 safeties quite a bit this season.
