Personally, I just don't know anything about the kid other than he pitched for LSU-E. His ERA was pretty damn high going up against that level of competition. How will that translate against SEC bats? Oh well, I hope the kid is a STUD and that he puts on a show today. AR and Ross both looked good this weekend, but I think the third spot is up for grabs.

Yea his ERA last year really makes me nervous. Before anybody goes up in arms, I did not say I believe we have any one better and Mainieri is making a mistake. I'm sure he is our third best starter, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is that good. I really hope he steps up. Man it would be nice to have signed Von Rosenberg and Colvin, though.

You're not lying, losing both was a tough pill to swallow.

Don't forget Stro that JB has had a full fall and spring practice with LSU to improve. After Renaudo, JB has one of the best records this spring in intra-squad games.

As Mainieri put it Saturday night in his post-game radio show, Bourgeois has earned the right to "audition" for the third weekend starter's spot. That is all it is today...an audition. I'm pulling for the kid.

I spoke with him at the last Coaches Committee meeting and he seems like a really nice young man. And he is gung-ho to help the team.

Matulis don't got it. I hope he finds it b/c his raw talent is immense! Just not consistent mentally or physically.

He's had 1 season under his belt. Think of how long it took Louis Coleman to 'find it'. I'm sure he and PM will figure it out.

No doubt, and I hope he has a stellar first start.

Matulis is 6'5" and is a lefty. He could be very imposing if he just develops. There is still time for that to happen.

Definitely, but LC persevered. Matulis will have to do the work to get to that level. LC fricked with his armslot and basically did whatever it took. I hope Matulis will allow himself to be coached and ultimately improved.

Do you have any insider information that is not doing what the coaches are telling him?

Insider, no. He's headstrong though.

That can be a good thing for a pitcher. How do you know he's "headstrong"?

Most of Lutcher would probably be there anyway.

A little birdie told me he thought he was pretty good before he got to LSU (which he was and still is). It's that prima dona mentality that is hard to shake. That's all I'm saying. I have no info that he isn't doing what it takes. But as you know, pitching is as much if not more mental than it is physical. He's got ALL the physical tools to be a BEAST.

Bourgeois was a FR last year, remember that. Reason his his high ERA.

what you look at is his K's compared to innings pitched, and you can see he is a strikeout pitcher. That is where his projectibility comes from.

Not to mention he lives in the SZ so he will get hit a little more.
