Maybe I'm jumping the gun a tad after a bad loss...

But it seems obvious JJ needs some help in regards to teaching the art of defense. This isn't a knock on JJ at all, rather more of a football analogy.

JJ is tCEO of LSU hoops. Much like Les Miles, he needs to delegate facets of his team to others more qualified to teach specific aspects of the game.

I have no doubt JJ is the right guy to head the LSU program, but he's got to learn to delegate better imo.

For some reason I thought this was a Jordan Jefferson thread when I first saw it.

I see he was on Brady's 2006 staff...

Hell, JJ needs to give him a call...no?

Butch Pierre from Sorrento? Former Brady assistant and LSU interim HC. (I hoped he would replace Brady)

And what's Collis Temple 3 up to these days? Just curious, mad respect for the Temple family

Man, you have to consider that we're limited down low. The game plan was not for JOB to play 15 minutes tonight. Georgia just took advantage of our foul troubles and couldn't miss. They shot SIXTY PERCENT from the field for Heaven's sake! Some teams average near 60% from the FT line.

We knew that, UGA found out, and killed us.

The worst part about tonight was that a simple blueprint on how to beat LSU went viral.

Just put a guy in front of JOB defensively, and wait for the foul calls, then they're toast.

JJ is a shitty coach and a great recruiter. Dummies on this board will joke about it and laugh...but it's the truth. Get used to it. We should expect the same results as Brady

Oddly enough, the latter is more important imo as the former can hopefully be addressed with hiring better, more defense oriented, assistants.

I'd be perfectly fine if the Temple family stayed away from the LSU basketball program. CT2 injects politics into the program in hopes of staying relevant.

You realize why they shot 60% from the field right? Because we couldn't stop dribble penetration, they got easy baskets, and many trips to the FT line...and for some reason we stayed in man Defense.

imho, by the end of the season this will be a pretty good team, but we'll probably have lost too many to make the tournament.

It just takes time to learn to play together.

way too many ticky-tack fouls were called.

I agree on the ticky-tack fouls. I thought we were playing in Tuscaloosa last night.

As for JJ, I think he is an excellent recruiter. However his stubbornness to staying in man-to-man has hurt us at times this year, and our offense has struggled when we are not knocking down 3s. I hope he will learn and improve as a coach while we improve as a team. I believe we will get better by the end of the year and in future years. However, we have to learn toughness on the road. No sense in losing to Bama or UGA.

Exactly!!!

LSU is DEAD LAST in scoring defense in SEC play. Part of that is due to the fact that because they play at a fast tempo, the opponent takes more shots than usual against LSU. But a MUCH bigger part is the lack of fundamentals and effort on the defensive end. Last night wasn't an anomoly. SEC teams have been able to get to the rim at will all season against LSU. The only question is whether Mickey will block the shot or not? Their whole defensive game plan rest on him being able to affect every shot. UGA did a great job of bringing him away from the bucket, as well as sealing him off on drives. Mickey has been great on defense. Everybody else has been garbage. Martin plays with zero effort on the perimeter. Coleman gets in good guarding position, then inexplicablyl leaves his feet for no reason. JOB has never been a great defender. TQ and Morgan, while improved, are still caught flat-footed far too often which leads to reaching and bad fouls 25 ft from the basket.

Even in LSU's recent defensive "masterpieces" against UK and Ark., they gave up 82 and 74 points respectively. They still didn't play great defense in the zone. UK was able to get into the heart of the zone at will. Mickey's ability to be an eraser at the rim masked a lot of bad defense by his teammates. It's almost as if the team mindset is "frick it, Mickey will back me up if I let this guy blow by me."

This group is never going to win consistently on the road if they don't defend. They gave up 82 to Bama and 94 to UGA, two teams that struggle to score 70 points per game. Don't get me wrong, LSU is not even close to the program that UF is right now. But there's a reason UF bitch slaps the SEC home and away. It's because Billy D. demands that they defend. If CJJ can't coach it, find someone who can. If it's not a huge point of emphasis, then prepare for a lot of really talented LSU teams going 11-7 to 9-9 in the SEC year after year
