A buddy of mine (FSU grad) that I work out with was asking me at the gym Monday afternoon, as to why Fisher didn't get the job after Saban left. I told him I don't know all the "inside" info like some rant people who were "close to the situation". I told him I was in favor of it, but that's water under the bridge and I support miles. (Although, that's shaky) Was fisher ever strongly considered? Who was the #1 target to begin with? I told him my guess was that the administration at the time, along with fans & TAF, were probably very gun shy after the Mike Archer regime and promoting from within. I liked fisher's style, when he wasn't being hamstrung by his boss. Ie- the 7-3 auburn game. Again, was he ever high on the list? Also, who were the other strong candidates besides Petrino & Miles?

I believe Saban recommended Houston Nutt.

The pussies in charge didn't have the guts to let LSU be led by a guy that had never been a HC. I guess I don't blame them. They made a "safe" choice.

So Jimbo finally has a good season at FSU, and now all of a sudden the rant wants Jimbo back?

Jimbo had zero head coaching experience at that point. LSU, only 1 season removed from a national title did not want to hire a "rookie" head coach. The administration really liked Jimbo, and basically forced him onto Miles. Jimbo stayed for two more years before he finally had enough of Miles' meddling and bolted to FSU for the same position.

Saban recommended Houston Nutt. Hindsight is 20/20 but that would have been a big move promoting a coordinator with no HC experience.

UF struggled with Zook and now with Muschamp in the same situation. Even Fisher went 19-8 his first two years.

Yes. Forgot about Del Rio. What exactly went down with Petrino? Heard he was a real jack wagon (obviously now). I won't lie, when it looked as if we were gonna hire petrino, I was erect.

Mike Archer is still the reason why LSU will be hesitant to hire anyone with no prior head coaching experience.

It is a valid reason as being a head coach requires skills, delegating and time management that you don't get in other positions.

FSU still has few games to go before you get to crown ole Jimbo. He has shite the bed alot more times than he has been successful.

Mike Archer equaled no shot for a coordinator.

I think the Archer hire was definitely in the minds of the search committee at the time. That worked against Fisher.

As to him moving to FSU, remember, he's from the Bowden coaching tree. He played for Terry at Salem College and Samford. He was QB coach for Terry at Auburn, and if you remember those days, their offense was a lot like FSU's under Bobby. When the FSU offense started to tank a few years after the departure of Mark Richt, it made sense for Bobby to look to someone who was pretty successful and still a part of the family. They could offer him a chance at "HC in waiting" as well, though that looked a bit shaky as the Bowden era ended. So, his preference for FSU might have been a strong influence rather than any distrust or disappointment about Miles.

IIRC, Petrino sucked in the interview. No reporting was done as to why, but immediately after the interview, it was clear that Skip didn't want him. Perhaps, Skip asked him about his NFL aspirations and for once Petrino didn't lie.

I also recall that Del Rio essentially left Skip in his waiting room for 2 hours, and never really got interviewed.

At least that's the way I remember it, though I could be wrong.

Shouldn't you be in your office preparing for Furman?

37-10, a BCS victory, four first rounders, and a chance to play for the title this year.

Del Rio was the current head coach in Jacksonville. His contract stated that he could be fired for interviewing for another job during the season. Skip needed to wait about 3 days, or something like that, to interview Del Rio, but we went ahead and made the hire without waiting on Del Rio. Of course, somewhere near the Cap 1 Bowl Skip had a planned interview with Del Rio (3 days or so before their last game of the season) but apparently Del Rio didn't read his contract until hours before his planned meeting with Skip, so Skip got stood up.

I was glad when Jimbo left LSU. He always played not to lose rather than playing to win. Finally Jimbo has won a few games, I am not ready to Knight him yet!
