Jim Nickel call in to Culotta and the fan this morning

Jim Nickel from the LSU Radio Network called in this morning and made some great points about Louisiana and the lessons learned from recent hurricanes, the way the SEC Office and Florida's Admin has handled this
I will bullet point from memory, anyone else hear the call and want to add anything go ahead
-Louisiana learned that the most important thing in preparedness is to get way ahead of the situation regardless of public outcry of "over reaction"
-state officials were fired in the wake of Katrina because people were evacuated to NORLA and there were no contingencies for Food, Water, Clothing, Showers, Bathrooms in the shelters
-He has a hard time understanding why UF is being so stubborn in recognizing the demands and hazards of continuing to hold on to the Sat, 11AM start time
-He says he believes this is the kind of situation that could make or break SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey's reputation
-He questioned why the SEC Office does not have a plan in place for this situation.
- he suggested something along the lines of .......by Wednesday before a game then a __________ level of storm + ________ certainty of impact to a game host area = Move the game to _________ location (neutral site) and kick in the contingency plan
Also Jordy made an interesting point about the equipment staff leaving tonight in the LSU Tractor Trailer at 9:30 PM and potentially arriving in Gainesville in the middle of the storm

the whole thing has gotten beyond absurd, the UF admin and their moronic fan base continue to think this is strictly a competitive advantage issue. The only people trying to take advantage of the situations are the UF people themselves.
Sankey is weaker than Slive, which is saying something.

And I fully believe that if Roy Kramer were still running the league, a plan would be in place already for this situation and everyone involved would be saying "Yes, sir", "Whatever you say, sir", and "That is a great idea, sir".

A contingency PLAN should've been in place at a minimum last weekend. That plan should've been put into action Tuesday.
This is beyond ridiculous

I cannot believe a university like Florida will not put safety before a football game. They might be a football school but arent they also high on Academics and stuff??

Appreciate the post. Jim knows a lot about a lot when it comes to Louisiana government and how things operate, so I take his opinion and value it.

NOLA = New Orleans
NORLA = North Louisiana
basically his point was they evacuated a bunch of people from New orleans up there and then couldnt take care of them. Failure to plan is planning to fail, law of unintended consequences type stuff

OK. I thought most of the evacuees went to BR, Houston.

yeah they did, that was part of what Nickel was saying. They sent busses to North LA and the shelters were woefully unprepared and people suffered
in the "fog of war," decisions are made on the fly, crazy shite happens and then you have to deal with the aftermath. Trying to play a football game in that type of environment, whether the hurricane hits Gainesville or not is just foolishness.
