I think JD will improve a lot next year. Happy to see him back personally.

BTW JD, Herm is not in the hall of fame.

I’m not disappointed that he’s coming back at all. But I do think the coaching staff would be foolish to just automatically give him the job next year. He didn’t prove that he’s earned that right at least in my estimation.

I hesitate to say that we’ve seen his ceiling but I don’t know how much more he can give us. And I really hate that this means we’re probably losing at least one of our other highly talented quarterbacks.

LOL

This guy ain't winning no Heisman. I just hope he stops being terrified to throw the damn ball!

I expect another 8/9 win season. I don't think we win the SECW but it'll be year 2 of a rebuild and still a winning season.

JD5 is overly cautious and completely goes into his shell after a turnover and teams have defended his ability to run a lot better in the past several games. He doesn't have the arm to be successful when his run game isn't working.

I came to comment but see the comments are 50-50. So not having anything to add, congrats JD5. Now let's go win the championship!!!

As long as he develops more there even if it's not a big step forward we'll be improved.

There's enough film out on him. If you bottle him up in the run, he's not a good enough passer to win. He has to improve in that part of the game by leaps and bounds. If he doesn't, we'll have another 4 losses next year and Daniels will be a UDFA in 2024 instead of a mid-draft pick in 2023.

Plus, at least right now on paper, our corners and DE are not as good as their 2022 counterparts.

Why? Brian Kelly is known for switching up his qbs if he thinks the other option would be better. You really think Daniels won't start?

I think the player who gives lsu the best shot to win games will start.

Burrow had never started a game before his first year here. Daniels had 3 seasons of starting. Daniels may improve but most likely it won’t be as exponential as Burrows. We also opened up the offense in Burrow’s second year

To me Burrows big leap Junior to Senior year was less about his ability getting better. (he always had the talent) The big leap happened because of his leadership in the locker room, summer workouts, and grinding in the football building. He was the clear alpha dog and pushed everyone to get better.

JD has the chance to also be the alpha dog leader of this coming season. The chance to work harder then everybody else. The chance to grind all year in the football opps building and lead his team to a championship.

It's good news for LSU.

Returning QB's with his talent/experience are what championships are often made of.

This board is obsessed with the boom from Nuss but ignore the bust part of him which he's a turnover machine. Go look at his stats. They're not that impressive in limited opportunities. He has more turnovers than he does TDs. That negative absolutely outweighs his positives so it's easy to see why BK does not start him. 1 of those TOs in Arkansas loses you the game. How many games this year would we lose with him turning it over?

Sorry, but I don’t believe you can improve much with such limited opportunities like that. I believe a player can improve significantly with the right amount of reps. He barely
plays. Nuss isn’t my preference though.

Had no other logical choice. He would make more money with NIL than on a practice squad.

Yeah that’s a good way to look at it. I just don’t see JD making that kind of jump. If he does it would be awesome no doubt. Let’s hope he does

I've been critical of JD so far in this thread, but I will say that I feel better about him improving what he needs to improve than I would about Nuss growing out of the "chuck it and pray" mentality that he has.

So you're saying he should play the guy who does not give him the best shot to win right now?

Sorry buddy, no coach is going to do that especially when his arse is on the line.

Nothing I’ve seen from BK makes me think that, daniels had some poor games and he stuck with him

Look at his history at notre dame.

If nuss was the best option he would have gotten time this year.

Y’all are all up in arms about him throwing for over 200 yards in a half when Jayden did the same team in the same game.

Nuss has a pretty deep ball. Zero question about it. But he has also displayed his flaws. Jayden has flaws too but he played pretty well in the season and we won a lot more games than anyone expected

Why does he need a significant jump? If he improves, say 10%, that’s a hell of a player
