For the people that said he was the Ed O of baseball need to come get served! Where are y'all at?

I gotta give him props for getting the team right just in time. It looked like a wasted year and then all of sudden they have us believing like this team actually could get to Omaha.

He’s top 3-5 for sure. I wouldn’t argue him not being #1. He’s taken 2 programs to Omaha, and has a Title under his belt at a young age.
It’s hard to differentiate some of the College Baseball coaches. Tim Corbin has 2 Titles, and 5 trips to Omaha, but he had an unfair advantage for years and has been around longer than Jay. Dave Van Horn has a lot of long term consistency but no Titles. Vitello knocks on the door just about every year and is young. O’ Sullivan has a lot of consistency, but same amount of Titles as Jay and is older. Schlos from A&M is pretty good too. Cliff Godwin kills it just about every year at Eastern Carolina. Brian O’ Connor has 5 trips to Omaha and a Title as well.

He’s elite, for sure. You can’t discount what Mingione is doing at Kentucky though.

He did a good job turning the season around when it was in its darkest days. Most teams/coaches would have quit. Hopefully he learned from it and in the future will have the team play better early in the conference schedule and not put themselves in such a big hole. I’m a fan of Jay and think LSU’s future is bright with him leading it.

quote:that comparison was always dumb as hell even when we were losing. Coach O did not have a tenth of the work ethic JJ had after winning the title

And that’s exactly why I said Jay Johnson has a Title under his belt at a young age in my post.

quote:In a very short time, he's taken 2 programs to the final. That's a big difference. He's also won one of them. Some coaches can get opportunities, but can never seem to capitalize on them. Jay proves that whenever he's there, he's a threat to win it all.
He’s Taken 2 programs to Omaha, and has a Title under his belt at a young age.
And let's be honest. Who out of all of them would you trade Johnson for?

Would be hard pressed to disagree.. certainly top 3, maybe top 2

What I found absolutely fascinating was him saying he began the process of getting Jump ready to pitch this specific game 3 weeks ago. Which means he knew it would be on four days rest and he knew the game would be important.
The interesting part is yes the game was important, but think about Jay’s mindset 3 weeks ago. Either they do what they did and it was an important game to lockup postseason, or they stumbled and postseason was not in the cards. Unless they won the tournament.
Jay was planning on trying to win it all in Hoover all along. Either just to get into the postseason or mirror the format of Omaha to get the team ready.
Jay is different y’all.

I watched the same presser and CJJ is a mad scientist when it comes to baseball. Nobody will outwork CJJ and that makes me feel good to be a LSU fan.

Exactly my thoughts. Feels like house money even though we have a to accomplish still.

Now you know you can’t come and hear and say something factual. Way too many in here will get their feelings hurt.

Wes Johnson wishes he could hold a pen as far back in his cap as Jay

Some may say he is very good, top 20 or even top 10 in current coaches.
Some may say he is elite, top 5 and always competitive for the CWS championship.
I tend to favor the latter.

The fact he got in early and had a 9:30 practice the day before to get the team acclimated said a lot. That’s the mental side of preparation.
