If he can get through the 1st inning, he usually settles in nicely. That seems to be his biggest problem this season. In innings 2-6, he has looked great.

Getting through the first inning has become a big "if", then when he is struggling in the fifth, he has become a typical Sunday starter where the BP is expected to take over in the 4th or 5th, with the revolving door for the Sunday spot is still coming. I don't know, but PM has to be more concerned about him that he is letting on. If Poche was pitching for a team with limited scoring ability they would be in real trouble. Hope he gets his confidence and control back to where he needs it to be, but it has been ugly recently.

It might just be 2 earned runs, but it's not like they scored because someone booted a ball and let 2 runs score. They pounded him, and only 1 runner reached base because of an error. All the rest scored because he wasn't fooling anybody.

Does CPM go to the pin at the first sign of trouble?

Who do you think he will stick if he does?

I agree! The strike zone in the first inning was very small. Hitters had a definite advantage because they knew he'd have to throw it in that one spot and they were ready for it.

The last three games are where he just has not had it and against Missouri and South Carolina he seemed to be doing fine and then to just hit a wall. That sounds like it could be arm fatigue. He went 9 innings in his start at Mississippi State and threw 118 pitches. I don't think he has been the same since that long outing. I know that he is a tough competitor and that the coaches think he can throw longer than the others without tiring, but that doesn't mean he is immune to arm fatigue. I hope he can rest his arm a bit before Regionals.

These are the guys i trust right now to come out of the pin in no particular order:

Norman
Newman
Reynolds
Person
Bugg
Cartwright

I think you can mix and match these guys. They are all capable of coming in and getting outs.

I agree---the way I see it-- Poche needs to be
Third Starter --- with a tight leash from here
thru the Regionals & Beyond -- God Willing.
