Belowpar has been right every time. He said on Friday night before the 2007 SECCG that Miles just got an extension. Everybody was dogging him Saturday morning and Belowpar said, hold on fellas, Herbie is wrong. Belowpar is legit.

If this offer is legit, it's my opinion that he goes for a modest raise and focuses on the staff. He tipped his hand spurning UM at least once if not twice. Hopefully this all amounts to bumps for certain assistants and also gives a good basis for trimming a little fat.

. I doubt he ever had a serious offer before Herbie opened his trap and fricked everything up.

I say it's a smoke screen. A charade created by The Flagship to protect their hire from having to lie to his players for a week. Prolly one of the prominent names that was leaked last week then debunked. "Look at the birdie, look at the birdie"....meanwhile they give their guy the opportunity to coach his team in peace this week. Not be forced to stand up in front of cameras and players and lie. Then, next Monday said coach has team meeting, and flies to F'Ville on Tuesday. Look at the card of games this weekend. That's the pool where Hawg coach is coming from. Book it!

Having said that, what did Below Par say?

I will go to my grave believing that Les Miles was never going to be offered by Michigan in 2007. I followed a lot of Internet traffic during that time frame, and I just don't think it was ever offered. There was a faction at Michigan that wanted Les, but the Lloyd Carr group was adamantly against it. Remember, at that point in 2007, Les hadn't even won a conference title.

Now 2010, could have been different.

Nothing. LSU shouldn't match an additional $1.25M+ per year for a 2 loss season either.

Your opinion though, right. No comment at all from BP re: matching?

Money talks but I could see Miles being the type of guy to stick around regardless if we match or not.

The dude has 5 losses in 3 years in the toughest division of the toughest conference in football. The only coach better than that is Saban or Meyer and we aren't getting either of them

...5.5 million a year is a cheap investment for a proven commodity like Coach Miles. The football program is thriving and requires no subsidy from the University. Fans and alumni are donating to the athletic department. The program is always in hunt for the national title. LSU would be wise to match the offer.

People forget that there was a time LSU was considered a 2nd rate program and I can assured these fans, elite coaches were not considering LSU as a destination job. This is the Golden Age of LSU football. Coach Saban started it and Coach Miles more than maintained it.

And when did Les Miles give the "have a great day speech"?

Before the SEC championship game. Les had not won a conference title at that point.

People thought LSU was the most talented team in the nation for 2006 and 2007, yet it looked pretty certain that week that LsU would not have won a national title with talent stocked from Nick Saban.

This is the Golden Age. Glad I'm hear for it. Don't wanna lose Les. But there is a curiosity. I would love to see if he could be successful at Arky. That would definitively end the debate as to whether he can coach or not. LSU would be fine either way. It's an intriguing scenario to ponder. Doubt it happens though
