he has been hitting all season.

I am pulling for him because he is great defensively and if he hits we have a greater chance of going to Omaha. I want to go back and see my friends there.

But the old "he's hitting it hard, just right at people" does not explain it all IMO. So this happened all last season? I hope he succeeds and his OB% is great because of his walks, which is great, but he has not hit well this season.

I didn't follow his hitting last season apart from watching his BA. This season, however, I've seen him hit the ball hard many times right at the defense. I know I've seen him line out to an outfielder at least 5x.

As a freshman, 3rd in average & 2nd in HRs (behind Mahtook, and tied with Katz) in 2011: LINK.

A rough Cape Cod League summer in 2011 hitting only .234 (11-47): LINK.

A tough year in 2012, but still 4th on the team in average in conference games at .282, much higher than others such as Nola and Hanover down in the .230's region: LINK.

Dramatic improvement in the Cape Cod League for the summer of 2012, winning the HR Derby at the All-Star game and hitting .272 (40-147): LINK.

And now just warming up this season as LSU enters conference play!

Trust me, I am not being negative toward the young man and I hope he hits .300+ this year. I have been to every home game this year and I missed 2 last year. Yes, he's had some some loud outs, but he's had some shitty ABs too and way too many Ks. Again, .253 over an entire season can not be explained by tough luck.

I completely agree with this. But that was last year. Even with the most K's on the team, avg less than 1 a game is pretty damn good IMO.

This would be great. If he and Ross can start hitting, look out.

On base % is .400 due to 16 BB. That's great for a .230 hitter

seriously, if both got up to the .290 neighborhood and all other hitter stayed the same, go ahead and mark us down for Omaha.

Yes, it is. But I'm still saying that he's been doing a decent job of getting the bat on the ball.

Agreed. Hell, .250 will work for a stud catcher like Ross. I'd like .290+ out of Jones, but with his great glove anything close is good.

Not disputing that. Just pointing out he is a more patient batter this yr. 16 BB so far, 15 all last yr. last yrs ob% was.308. That's a 100 point improvement

Seems like the whole team has better discipline at the plate this season.
