I’ve always wondered if Skip still goes to some practices…

He probably shows up to practice is here and there, but I highly doubt he does any sort of coaching

As a mentor yes. He doesn’t hide that. Anyone would be better off by listening. He knows how to talk to people.

I know Jay gets him to speak to team and he talked to Little before a game one time
He attends some of the fall scrimmages and Jay has had him speak at coach's committee meetings as well

In the late 80s-90s He would to come speak to Baton Rouge area schools all the time, whether it was for an honor roll ceremony or graduation. He was a great speaker and always had a great message.

I was in attendance to hear him twice during my middle and high school years.

Come on man.

Skip is all class. He doesn’t meddle.

Does he talk to JJ several times a week? Absolutely.

Does he watch several practices?
Absolutely.

He’s there for anyone in the baseball program if you need him, but he’s not actively coaching players. Of course he gives any player insight and tips if asked, but he’s not going out of his way coaching. He’s far too classy for that.

I think Skip and Paul are much better (and invaluable) resources for Jay to bounce ideas off of, get some stories from, and get advice from—when solicited. But Jay is the team’s coach and there needs to be boundaries to where those lines aren’t blurred. It undercuts the authority of the current coach if the old coaches are always around, especially one as revered and legendary as Skip. They can go to all the games and hang around the park and probably give an annual talk or something, but being out at practice is probably crossing a line.

I’m sure he does, what else he got to do? He probably just spectates, unless CJJ wants some advice.

I didn’t realize how big of a mentor/motivational speaker Skip was until watching that SEC Storied special last night. He seems to be a very well regarded coach and human being.

He’s like Don Corleone in his older years. He lets Mikey and Sonny handle those things.

Maybe you should try and talk to him. He could probably teach you how not to be a little bitch and say that this team wouldn't make it out of a regional.

Johnson said as a matter of fact that he talks to Skip 2-3 times a week.

He is getting mentored by him and that’s a fact.
