Simply b/c the pay was so disproportional to what anyone else has paid, and because of the timing of the payment.
Are either one of those factors against the rules? From what I read that payment was for the next year's services.

No. They'll have to prove influence on Lyles' part. That's incredibly tough to pin down. But leave it to the NCAA to cling to any shred of evidence they can gather to bail their arse out.

College football is also about 40 times more valuable than college basketball.

My understanding is that recruiting services usually help athletes get placed at schools that may otherwise not known about them. Usually not the highly recruited kids but the kids who played high school at a smaller school without much exposure, or a wide reciever who played at a running mostly school. The recruiters look at GPA's, ACT scores etc to find ways to get these kids scholorships to colleges that have a need for the position. For example a 6 ft wide reciever with a 3.8 GPA who plays for west monroe (a running team) may fill the need for say a Louisiana College division 3 school who doesn't have the resources to go out and recruit. The service does it for them. It helps the school and helps the kids get to extend their careers. Now these highly recruited kids who don't really need recruiting services...hmmmm.

It is illegal is the service is paying the player and the sum paid to the service is a wink and nod payment to the player through an illegal agent. Not saying that is what happened, but it does happen, and that is the concern.

Oh and the parents usually fit the bill for the recruiting service as they don't have to pay as much for college. Also the smaller schools may only have partial scholarships so may only be able to give 3 kids the equivalent to one scholly by dividing up the scholly between the three. The recruiters know this and can help families to understand how it works.

Herb Vincent has said that LSU paid Lyles' Complete Scouting Services $6000 for scouting this past year.
Based on the price list that CSS has posted on their site, that appears to be two states worth of JUCO coverage at $3000 / state because it's impossible to get to $6000 total through any other combination of listed prices.
If this is the scouting they paid for, then Randle wouldn't even be part of the coverage they received since he's a HS player instead of a JUCO player.

Well, then if a player was paid pursue it but to have sportsriters toss around opinions and incorrec information as fact is not proof of anything.
All that these idiots have said is that Oregon, LSU and Bama have used this guy in Houston. So WHAT?
Hell, LSU's assistant AD stated publicy that he used 14 recruiting services last year. Oregon sated that they used Lyles last season and intend to use his service again this year. Once again, SO WHAT?
It s not illegal to purchase services of recuiting services. No one has come forward and stated that ANY SCHOOL has done anything and LSU has not been contacted by the NCAA about anything.
BTW, WVU MUST be using RECRUITING SERVICES because I have VIDEO of WVU hosting a 7-on-7 passing tournament. WVU is a cheater......GET IT? WVU's 7-on-7

Anyone accusing LSU of cheating for using recruiting services doesn't understand the situation.
Anyone suspicious of why LSU had no idea they were dealing with a guy like Lyles is alright. I understand LSU can't monitor to the T the background of all the services they deal with, and Lyles wasn't a suspect until two weeks ago, but it's still concerning. His reputation was bad before all this broke.
