Because it's not as obvious when they make mistakes and in most cases we really don't know what they were SUPPOSED to do.

But having said that, I can say with FULL confidence...

Our O-Line played the WORST game I've ever seen.

Having read all this JJ criticism (and agreeing with it), the line (Hurst in particular) need to be recognized equally for how bad they performed. They say the men in the trenches don't get the recognition they deserve for a great rushing attack, or big throwing numbers.

Well I'd like to give them their due recognition on Monday, for absolutely tanking.

My major critique of the line play Monday night was an inability to get to the second level which is absolutely critical in running against a 3-4. Rarely were Bama safeties even involved in stopping the run. Their front 7 simply dominated.

No misdirection/counter plays. No delay draws. No stretch plays. No speed sweeps. Their linebackers were downhill all game without even a second of pause to read and react.

Just a total fail unfortunately.

Our o line is having nightmares about Gentry and Hightower

In the first half a running back ran the ball 4 times. All of the other plays were JJ passes and JJ designed runs. At least when the hand-off wasn't bobbled. And of those 4 runs, I am guessing that one was our beautiful option play. How is the o-line responsible for all of that?

JJ had enough time to pass. He didn't have his accustomed 6+ seconds to sit back there and stare down receivers, but considering this was Alabama no-one should have expected more.

Totally agree the O-Line got dominated. But what does a competant OC do when the pass rush is getting to the QB?

1.Quick throws. I guess that is out of question with JJ running the show. His mechanics are still like a HS QB - long winding release and throws either too high (the pass to OBJ) or into the dirt and stares down receivers.

2.Screen to the RB or TE - not in our regular playbook.

3. Bubble screens - Tried that a few times but Bama sniffed it out, throws were slow developing and the blocking by the WRs left a lot to be desired.

4. Roll the QB out - JJ did try a cpl of passes by rolling to his right and had a completion and another near completion to OBJ. But then the coaches went back to what was not working.
