Rankings in January mean absolutely nothing! The rankings that matter are in December!

Umm I hate to be the one to tell you, but they were ranked way ahead in December as well.

It's not nearly as sad as ULL being ranking higher than LSU in the actual rankings of the season that just ended.

Where was Ohio St, Notre Dame, and Clemson ranked?
Prior to the Playoffs.
This Covid/Opt out season doesn't mean anything in regards to ranking.

Stick USL in the SEC and then come back with poll results

With the typical $100 Million SEC West athletic budget and boosters able to had off a few bucks to top recruits.

Can't throw a team into the SEC with a mid-level Sunbelt budget of $30 Million.

A strong #2 in Louisiana, whether it is UL or La Tech, is good for LSU in the long run. While neither school will pull the top recruits away from LSU, they may pull some of the three star and low four star guys away from Miss. St, Arkansas, Ole Miss, etc. The enemy of my enemy is my friend type deal...

I like your thinking.

Similar to how if LSU goes back to the Dinardo years, suddenly they're having to recruit off the top of UL, Tech, and Tulane's wish list. Pulls those guys out of contention for possibly going to whomever is the #2 or #3 program in the state.

Kinda.

I always want Louisiana colleges (except those with the name Tulane) to do well in all endeavors academic, athletic, etc..

However if you are a LSU sports fan then you don’t want a Louisiana program to approach LSU. Long, long, ago, Tulane used to compete against LSU for talent in the Greater New Orleans area. So I want Louisiana schools to feast on 2 stars with an occasional 3 star get that LSU doesn’t want. No 4+ stars.

Now all fans of non-LSU Louisiana schools dream of unlimited success for their programs. And most of them are also LSU fans. Or to put it another way, most LSU fans have their favorite small Louisiana school.

Tulane, and increasingly ULL fans, are different. They dream the dream of other fans, but they additionally have an animosity to LSU. This causes me, as an LSU fan, to have an animosity towards them. Fortunately Tulane is a has been program, and Lafayette is a never was.

I’m from the Lafayette area and went to ULL for undergrad. I have zero animosity towards LSU. It is possible to support both teams/universities.

Why? LSU was not a good team last year and is going through another coaching carousel. Get over it and move on with your day.

How many times in 80 years have they beat LSU -0
How many National Championships hv they won-0
This is as close as they will ever get to being kinda relative.

LSU is number 8 in the CBS sports pre-season poll today. USL did make the list at #25.

It’s sadder that they still put out preseason polls.
They shouldn’t rank anyone before the 3rd-4th week.

Conspiracy by the gump grads working at ESPN looking to weaken LSU's presence, prestige and dominance in the state of Louisiana. Their fingers are everywhere. Almost as bad as he Communist Chinese government.
