It was a smart move by CPM but I would have sent Poche out to start the ninth

Bugg and Newman were ready but Poche was dealing. That being said, just how clutch is Newman?

Newman is the closer for a reason. Send him in to do his job. Poche excelled at his.

Props to Jared for being honest about it. Very mature move on his part.

He did his job, dominated and got the W.

I also thought he should have kept Poche' in, but we won so can't criticize PM.
That being said, I almost feel after we scored our runs, Rice knew it was over- they looked as shell-shocked as we did in the early innings...

A wise man once said: "Let your closer close." I'll never question taking out a guy to let your closer do his job.

he had over 150 pitches in 3 days. I was saying in the 8th that I didnt want him coming out in the 9th... He did his job and we need him ready for next weekend

Newman has been nails all year. I had no issues with it. Dude has been throwing some nasty stuff lately

I bet because of his stuff Poche is nastier when he's a little fatigued. He's like one of those old man racquetball players that can killshot anything when their arm gets a little sore.

Also, ESPN quit calling him Puh-shea. It is Po-shea.

I watched the game with a former LSU pitcher (under CPM). he said it was a mistake to bring Poche back for the eighth. Not that it wouldn't be effective; it was a health of the player issue. He pointed out that this is his draft year, and you have to protect that.

I was ambivalent about the 8th, but I was hoping for Newman in the 9th.

No reason to leave Poche out for 9th if he told coach he was done
Newman was well rested and you still had Bugg
