Let me just start by saying that I don't hate Les Miles or any of the other coaches for that matter. I believe Les has done an excellent job keeping this program as one of the top 5-10 in the country for the duration of his tenure here. It's a proven fact that the man can recruit, and he always seems to get excellent assistants to turn those recruits into exceptional football players. He's a great guy and his players love him and it's pretty easy to see why that is the case.

All that said, he constantly gets criticized by the fans for anything and everything he does and some of that is completely warranted. He makes some crazy arse and sometimes borderline dumb decisions in key moments that make or break a game. Sometimes this works out for the best and other times no so much, but that can be said for any coach really. The thing that is causing the most distaste for CLM is the fact that he can't beat Alabama. Year after year we watch LSU lose to this team and people are just getting sick of it. We have the talent level to compete with the them year in and year out and that's more than just about anyone else in the country can say, but it just gets old watching this team struggle against that one opponent.

It all comes down to the coaching, and it is apparent that Nick Saban is a better football coach than Les Miles, but he is a better football coach than just about anyone in the country at this point. That doesn't stop other coaches from game planning against the guy and have success though. Just because someone is a better coach doesn't mean you can get the better of them from time to time and it's been proven that it can be done several times.

Regardless, it just seems that every year LSU tries the same shite with the same result. People just want to see a change in the way things are done and I honestly believe that most would like to see that happen with Les at the helm. I just don't see that happening. The guy is apparently set in his ways and will live and die by the run even when the game situation is screaming you have to throw the ball. It's the same tired arse thing year after year and I just believe that people area ready for a change.

There are a lot of young coaches out there that can bring new energy to the program and possibly get LSU out of the current rut they seem to be stuck in. The stadium doesn't even have the same energy it used to have just a few years ago. People just seem down and out about the program in general and it's a sad thing to watch. There are plenty of young coaches out there that could bring new energy and views of the game to the program.

In short, Les shouldn't be fired by this university. The man has given too much and accomplished more than any other coach in his time here. I just think it might be time for CLM to make a respected exit.

Les will retire after another SEC championship, National Championship, and the LSU all-time wins record.

7-1 and in the top 10 and you want our coach to step down.

seems reasonable

There is no way we can fire him. To quote EWE "unless we find him with alive boy or dead girl."

His kids are getting older. He has already hinted at the fact that when they start making families of their own, he will hang it up. I think he will retire within 5 or 6. Until then, just accept it for what it is.

Exactly. The greatest coaching career you will see at LSU in your lifetime.

By the way, I just got back from the future. The coach after Les was horrendous. He was fired after 3 seasons finishing last in the West and the program was on the rocks for almost a decade after that.

Don't be stupid. Enjoy what you have now. It doesn't get much better.

An honest opinion with some very valid points OP.

If he didn't change after 2011, going undefeated and then needing one win to have the best season ever for a college football team, he is not going to change. All we can hope for is that Steele and Orgeron can beef up the defense and that will be the difference needed to be competitive with Alabama. Outside of that we won't beat bama again with Miles here.

Actually, I'd rather he just adapt to the game. I like Les. He's just undeniably stubborn and wasting loads of offensive talent, and since there's no evidence he'll ever adapt to the modern game, I do believe it's time for a change. I just don't see him winning SEC or a NC again. Agree to disagree with you.

Les miles is a top 10 coach. Nick saban is #1 and just happens to be in our same division. Anyways we'd be the laughing stock of collegiate athletics for firing him. No wonder you idiots hate alleva

I like Les. Just wish his offenses were better. But they aren't and won't be. So are we content with what we have? We're 7-1 but almost certainly won't win the west. Everyone ok with that?

Oddly, I think I'm ok with that.

Solid opinion, which is fine. Les will get over the Alabama hurdle because his staff will recruit bigger and better players.

Because you can't beat one team.
Take a look at Fla and Tenn and Texas recently.
Look at what they are going through in replacing top notch coaches that established longevity.
There is no way you get rid of Miles.
It's not hard to hire a bad coach that sets your program back years.
Look at Alleva track record, the one big hire he has made at LSU was Trent Johnson (who was a terrible recruiter) and now Johnny Jones (whose game day coaching still leaves a lot to be desired).
Think about that before you get your wish and have to replace Miles.

I agree, Les ain't stepping down, and he doesn't need to be fired. That's pretty unreasonable.

However, it's also unreasonable to take the same exact game plan against an opponent for 8 straight matchups. Especially when that game plan has led to an average of 13.8 pts per game, and that includes two overtime games. Who, other than Les Miles, can be happy with that type of offensive output?

except for the fact the he had the first offense in SEC history with a 3000 yard passer, 2 1000 yard receivers, and a 1000 yard rusher.

but yeah...other than that

Coach McClendon lost to Alabama, I think it was: 9 games in a row?

At one point, Alabama had gone undefeated in Tiger Stadium for something like 25 years?

Back in 2006 or so when it became obvious that Alabama would hire Saban, LSU fans said that those Tide fans who thought that Saban would rival Bear's accomplishments were "completely delusional Alabama fans". Well, I guess that the small minority of fans who thought this would happen were not delusional at all. I was one of the few who saw this coming.

Now, LSU has to deal with it as best they can. I predict that Miles will retire before Saban.

I disagree with pretty much your whole post but I'll focus on one paragraph

Give me a name of who you think would do better than Miles. We do not want to become Tennessee or Texas, lost in the wilderness for years. We are 7-1 and ranked in the top ten, still alive for the SEC (admittedly we need some help), still alive for the playoff, working on singing what will probably be the best LSU recruiting class in history, and trying to keep a newly expanded stadium sold out. We played the most talented team in America and got their absolute best effort. Some of you just need to accept Bama is better this season. LSU can still have a great year.

That was the same offense we have now.... He had the players to make it work. Those players were made for this offense and that's the only time it clicked. He doesn't change to his personnel and that's the main problem I have with him. He runs the same shite regardless of player skill sets.
