Despite having his career going down the drain, Justin Vincent had a fantastic freshman year.

Best freshman ever at LSU: Laron Landry, and it's not even close.

Wrong. It was Dalton Hilliard.

Tommy Hodson has the 8th best passing season in LSU history - an achievement he earned his freshman year. At the time he earned it, it was the 2nd best season in LSU history. Only his senior year was better.

Dalton Hilliard's freshman season isn't even on the record books anymore, nor is Kevin Faulk's.

mathaurus is real good but kevin faulk imo was the best. was twice as good then pp or trindon on returns.

Either your memory is cloudy or your judgment is. During Faulk's freshman season, Eddie Kennison was the man. Faulk's best year as a punt returner was in 96 when he got 375 yds on 24 returns. PP7 just pulled in 418 on 26. Holliday's best was when he got 362 on 20.

Faulk does not appear on any top 10 lists as a kick returner. PP7 just had the best season in LSU history as a kick returner. Second place is not even close.

1. Peterson 932 yds on 32 carries
2. D. Davis 618 yds on 25 carries
3. Holliday 609 yds on 27 carries

Assuming you mean best true freshman defensive player at LSU. I'd rate him even with Laron Landry and Booger Mcfarland who were both instant starters. Casanova, who came along when all freshman were ineligible, was an instant All-American the second he set foot on the field as a sophomore fwiw, as were Stovall and Cannon. The three latter all played both sides of the ball.

Best I "remember". The guy is like a cat. He's already making the next move before he hits the ground. The way he recovers to make a play is awesome to see.

words like EVER or NEVER should be banned....

it only shows "small amount of knowledge/data"

there is seldom a true "apples to apples" comparison when these words are used.

if you want to use the words...layout your CRITERIA for judgment first... BEST EVER is such a broad term ..based on ??? (specifics)

great does not equal BEST EVER

..just a thought

Not sure how you can say definitely, at least not objectively...looking at their freshman stats, Landry had about 20 more tackles than Mathieu.

But Tyrann had more than double the tackles for loss, more sacks, he forced 5 fumbles and recovered 3 (Landry had none of either), more pass breakups and even a blocked kick.

So I think the only definite thing is that both had great freshman seasons. Maybe you give the nod to Landry bc he did it on a national championship defense, but i think Tyrann had at least as good a season from an individual perspective.

Mathieu stats

Landry stats

The amount of turnovers caused by mathieu is a wash with 20 more tackles from Landry.

IMO.

Mathieu is a better form tackler IMO with that being said.

Landry was definitely awesome his freshman year, but that D he was on was the best I've ever seen at LSU. They were incredible and damn near every player was awesome.

This year's D wasn't nearly that good, but Tyrann was awesome. The guy made gigantic plays all year long. So I'm sure Landry had more tackles in his freshman year with Mathieu starting out backing up Peterson, but I think Tyrann might have had more big plays and it continued through the bowl game. That strip/TD that was taken away against the Aggies was one of the best I've ever seen at LSU. And before that he was already having an incredible game.

So they were both great freshman, but a little hard to compare since one D was superior to the other. It would be close either way. Both were incredible in their 1st year.
