Wichita and N Texas....not so much. NT has four starting seniors, they'll win their conference and get the tourney bid so they are not nobodys

I actually think Coastal will prove to be pretty good as well.

Still, we should win 1-2 of those three games at least and at the very least compete with UNT. Geez, that was embarrassing.

Dude, I have gone on record multiple times that it was in the best interest of Brady and LSU to part company. I have not posted derogatory comments about Trent and I still support him as the current LSU coach.

I have always had concerns that his recruiting approach could result in LSU becoming Vanderbilt south, not bad but no where near the heights Brown and Brady reached. I still have those concerns, but Trent deserves a couple more years to see if his approach bears long range results.

However, every post defending Trent does not need a derogatory shot at Brady. Brady deserves credit for taking a program through draconian NCAA sanctions and still taking teams to the Final Four, Sweet 16 , recruiting three SEC champs and coaching two of them along with 4 SEC West titles. Hopefully we can say at least the same for Trent in his first 10 years here.

I agree. Brady's record stands for itself. Some really good, some bad. As with most coaches.

Now it's on TJ. Clearly this will be a rocky year. We still lack low post presence. And we're relient on Freshmen to carry the scoring load. When they fail to do so, we're going to look bad.

Defensively we are struggling. That's not uncommon for so many new pieces.

Before you bookmark you you might want to wait to see if we have a new coach.

Trent made the NCAA Tournament in 3 of his 4 years at Stanford.

Also took Nevada to the Sweet 16. Has been conference coach of the year in 3 different leagues. The "he can't coach" bs is just that. All five of the teams that have beaten LSU are favored to win their leagues which LSU is most definitely not expected to do. Mid-major in basketball is a totally different animal than football. Just ask Davidson, George Mason and Butler. People who don't get this really are not astute college basketball followers. The SEC is probably only around 10th among basketball conferences this year. NT is capable of beating practically every team in the SEC this year and will probably reach or break the 24 wins they had a year ago.

This.

Curly didn't win the SEC (I know, TJ had Brady's players). Don't know why the team is not clicking, but I believe things will turn around at some point.

Although Brady deserved to to for his erratic results and especially the way he took the team down the drain the two years after the Final Four after only losing 2 players from the Final Four Team,

I think after TJ gets through, you might be wanting Brady back. I was one of the ones hollering the loudest for his head, but...He did rebuild the program to a point after the draconian NCAA sanctions, leading the Tigers to the Sweet 16 in his fourth year. He was a good recruiter (or at least Butch was), and at least the Tigers were COMPETITIVE in the SEC.

The solution: get rid of this guy and take our time and pay whatever it takes to get a big-time coach in here.

And those players were:

Tyrus Thomas - 4th pick in NBA draft
Darrel Mitchell - Best shooter on the team

No, it was time for a change for both LSU and Brady

He actually did this in year three. And Trent is in ...... Year three.

And Year 3 ain't over by a long shot. TJ is going to have to get mental with these guys. He has to make them think they are going to win everytime they step on the court. He also has to put them in the position to win. Coaching is a lot of x's and o's, but it's also a lot of psychology. Exhibit A:

Speaking of Exhibit A, his top assistant and recruiting genius was across the floor from Trent last night. Hint...hint...

And I like the guy and would love to keep it in the family, but that taint is tainted. JJ can't coach at LSU due to perceived past indescretions.

Why can't the guy be given a chance? He was cleared by an NCAA who was bent on getting revenge on Dale and further exonerated by Lester Earl himself in his apology letter.

What if it was the difference between the program becoming perennial SEC doormats and being perennial NCAA contenders again? How many straight NCAA appearances were there under Dale?

I understand that, but do you really think the BOS and the older alumni would be that quick to accept such a hire? Would he even want to come back here? Are we looking for a new coach right now? The answer to the last question is no, and the soonest we'll be looking is after the 2012 season.

JJ would be a juicy candidate by then if he's still getting results at NTSU, keeping it clean and hasn't been lured away by some other program.

Exactly. I hope we don't have to suffer that long if Trent isn't going to cut it, but perhaps like you say, the time will be right and things will fall into place by then. You talk about him being lured away by another program...perhaps being at a less profile program such as North Texas, he will be less noticed.

How do we know JJ would be as successful as Dale? With the lack of talent in LA right now I don't even think John Wooden could win at LSU.

Not sure what the exact figure is on consecutive appearences, but I think it was 11 or 12. Fun times!

He brought in talent like Chris Jackson, Shaq O'Neal (Dale had a big hand with him), and Randy Livingston. The class of '93 was the #1 recruiting class in the nation. Johnson has a high respect for him having his team ready to play. Perhaps he could be a little better coach than Dale as well? Who knows what he could do if he had SEC-caliber talent?
