My thinking is yes. The SEC is only going to get one representative and the Tigers have to win this game to make the cut. In other words, they can lose any other game in the November/December and still get into the CFP. But not this one. Wondering if anyone else sees it that way ?

No. Win @ Alabama and we lose to Ole Miss (and they have no more losses in conference) would mean there is a tie in the SEC-W. By default, in that scenario, would mean Ole Miss wins the tie-breaker and goes to the SEC Championship. I would wager the winner out of that game would go.

Still too much in the air to consider any team locked into the playoffs. To be honest I like our chances, but we still have to get through a brutal month and a half of football (if we win the West). Florida looks like they'll get another crack at us and they already showed they can challenge our defense.

No. We have to win the SEC championship. Most likely, we don't do that without beating Bama, Ole Miss (who controls their own destiny), and Florida in the championship game.

No, there are probably four more games after this one. You can't assume wins in any of them. Then if the seccg is our first loss and Florida only has one loss, I don't think we go. So I won't consider it locked down until the seccg ends.

Bingo. I had a late edit but you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Records being the same, you have to take the winner of the bigger game.

I never liked the idea of giving a beaten team another chance to win at a higher-stakes game against the same opponent. All to familiar with Alabama getting another chance at us 4 years ago. Basically saying regular games don't mean sh*t in the rankings. That being said you have a very unique set of events and it's hard to pick a better team out of the SEC-E than Florida. I think in situations like this they should give the winner of the previous game home-field advantage or something in the game. It's a stretch, I know - just saying.

To be very fair here, Florida would have won the East and the chanpion of divisions plays in the overall championship, so they would have earned their way. This is nothing like the Bama situation when they just sat at home as the #2 team in the SEC west and watched us whip a really good Georgia team, and still stroll right into the NCG.

I agree with all of this except the suggestion that a 2 loss Ole Miss would go to the playoff. They lost to Memphis! The nightmare scenario for the SEC is LSU beats the gumps, then loses to the webels, and the webels go on to win the SECCG. If that happens, the SEC is shutout of the playoff.

For LSU, Three tough SEC games remain after Alabama and assuming we win out and win the West then there is a likely rematch with Florida in the SEC championship game.

This happens all the time in other sports. Not a big deal.

Would we still get a Co-Champ banner?

Other games for us are ahead, but votes will still go to Bama. As Mark May said, it was a fluke Bama had 5 turnovers and lost, etc. I don't believe there is an automatic guarantee a SEC team will get into the playoffs, unless maybe you're Alabama.

There is probably a good reason you average 50 posts per year....probably should keep it that way.

LSU could easily beat bama and drop 2 of last 3.

I do, however, think that LF could lock up the Heisman with a strong performance against Bama.

OM is not nearly as good as many think. They struggled against Vandy, struggled against Auburn, got throttled by Florida and whipped by Missouri...sure they beat some jr colleges....but beating a pathetic A&M does not mean a lot. I would not be shocked at all if Arkansas beat Ole Miss this week.

My point is that, if the Tigers lose this game, what the team does after this will most likely not matter

Absolutely not, read the first response to your OP. Too much football to be played - and despite Ole Miss's horrible exhibition against Memphica, don't think for a minute that they won't play their best game of the year against us. Should they look up, and see that a win against us puts them in the SECG, look the frick out, and get ready for a war.
