I've always been curious to what it looks like in there.

i can't believe there is no readily accessible gallery of pictures

i've seen them many times but didn't take pictures

it's just a bunch of small sparse rooms filled with plain furniture and some office supplies. they are just used as long term surplus storage now

Looked like normal rooms, just like kirby, no suite bath though. NOw its ised as offices, storage and a place for rodents to shite and piss.

I've heard that there was no AC in those dorms..I, for one, could have never done that.

No AC in North Stadium when I was there. So in the Summer, when you want a breeze, it was coming from the South, so you didn't feel a damn thing. During Winter months, when you didn't want any breeze, that freakin' North wind would howl through the cracks in those old windows, and you only had one of those old style radiator heaters in your room.

Definitely an experience.

The winter was just as bad, cold arse concrete walls and floors with just a radiator heater in the hallway. If you lived next to it you burned up, on the other end you froze. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Lack of A/C also extended to Hodges Hall dorm for my 1st semester. Climate didn't bother me, but had a couple of roomates from NY that damn near didn't make it through the 1st few weeks of fall semester.

Fortunately, there were enough 1st semester flunk-outs that I was able to move across campus to a dorm with A/C the next semester.

Did you get mesothelioma from the asbestos?

Hell no. I'm healthy as I can be.

I ran with scissors and drank from a garden hose too. Rode bikes without helmets.

We laughed in the face of asbestos !!!

I lived in the stadium dorms the fall semester of 1979. No roommate single room orange walls and ceiling with the plumbing or pipes exposed in the ceiling. Third floor just above the student entrance to the stadium. I was in a frat so we could go back and forth from the student entrance as we had to save seats and waited outside for hours. We would enjoy refreshments in the room. No AC. I got upgraded to power dorm in the middle of the semester. I will search for old party pics and try to get them posted.

And don't forget having real bb guns or small caliber rifles (.22) in elementary school and being able to play outside until after dark.

I went in there in the middle of the night in '90 for the first time to check it out. The A/C's were ALLL ON. In every room that had one. Mattresses everywhere.. one or two light bulbs in the hall on. and one shower running with no shower head, just gushing water. Was really something out of a horror movie. Waste.

I lived in the stadium for 12 consecutive semesters starting in 1976. College and grad school. (It's the reason for my screen name). I lived in 501 East Stadium for 10 of those. I loved the experience, although no AC and climbing 4 floors of steps was inconvenient. Cheap and accessible to the campus. My room was built for 3 people, but they had taken out the extra beds, so I had a lot of room and storage space.

The visiting teams used to enter the stadium right below my window. On Friday nights, if I was home, I'd tigerbait the hell out of them as they entered for their stadium walk around. Sometimes I'd see the coach point up at me and I can just imagine him telling his team to be ready, because there'd be 70,000 more fans loud just like me for the game.
