Unless we gain physical strength in next 60 days then no. We are weak and look like we're wearing skates.

You welter haters are fricking retarded.

We get pushed around, scored on, juked out and humiliated just as bad when he's on the sidelines watching.
Nick Marshall made 52 look like a jr high player on one of his TD runs in the 3rd qrter.

With that said, being as we are prob gonna lose the rest of our games and welter is a sr, why not play the guys the will be here next year.

Using what criteria?

None really, eyeball test. Just my opinion dog. Gave up a ton to Georgia, Mississippi State, Bama, even TCU.

I mean we should be fricking stellar this year with all the guys on our great defense returning from last year right? Wait no...

At least 52 has the ability to meet and stop a ball carrier at the LOS.

Got it.

Should be. There is more going on than we know - that's for certain. The offense isn't helping much, for one. But there is a certain chemistry missing on defense. Everybody tries to hang it on Welter, but Welter played last year. And it isn't the losses - although Barrow may be one of our more underrated defensive players in years.

We don't have the rotation at DT, that's for sure. But something else just isn't right. And I can see it when we make the right call and the defense makes a TFL - all the elements are there, just not showing up every down.

I believe Chavis will figure it out - this isn't his first rodeo. However, we're running out of time for 2014.

It isn't lack of talent, it is lack of discipline. So yes, that is fixable.

To certain degree, yes.

We have to get more production out of the interior line, and our safety play is not good.

We have a ton of DBs, I would think we could find one or two that could help

I swear, it is like JJ/JL extended. They are both mediocre, having a firm stance on either is not valid.

not as bad as #26 on this play

Martin literally sees that its a draw and decides to wait on Marshall to run to him. Then when Marshall actually tries to run around him....Martin falls down. And I do know its one play and Martin is probably one of our best defenders.....I'm just saying we have some issues if things like this are going on.

Does this current crop of defensive lineman have the talent to become what we are used to seeing in our defensive line. Are they as talented and going to be as strong as what we need. This year aside. I worry more that we passed on Chucky Hunter at TCU from Shreveport and he has become a stud for them. Will any of these guys develop into that type of player.

MEH.

52 is highly mediocre, Welter is the worst LB I've ever witnessed as a long term LSU starter.

Would a prefer a better choice than mediocre over awful? Well, yeah. But, 52 is still miles better than Welter. I really can't identify a goddamned thing Welter does well once the ball is snapped. Hell, even if he gets to the guy with the ball and makes contact with him, it is much greater than 50/50 that the guy breaks his tackle.

I think this is the best point of view on our MLB's. Neither is any good... my one correction is I think calling them mediocre is an overstatement.

Here's my question, what SEC defense could either one of our MLB's start for?

Honestly, in the open field, a good runner like Marshall is going to win that one more often than not.

What Welter did on that flat pass though was laughable. I mean hell, he didn't even get juked.

SEC?

I'm not certain either of our MLBs would start for any team we've played other than SHS.

Welter is one of the best Division 2 linebackers we have ever had.

I don't know, I do agree Beckwith should get the playing time to gain experience on our D, but to get animated about one over the other is pointless.

While there seems to be a discussion about this position...

Does anyone else think that the scheme is the problem, seriously, it seems both MLBs have the same issues, is it because they just have too much field to cover, they always seem to be the only person even CLOSE to the play once it breaks the LOS. Surely this is some problem with scheme.

thats is what we call "the spread offense"...its why we recruit speed on defense.
