Can we fix the defense at all, or is there just a lack of talent with the defense?

From one on the coaching staff. He said we do not have the players on the d line this year. Does not matter how good the backend is if u can not stop the middle runs or pressure the qb.

It is what it is, but they could look 100 times better if they had an offense to give them a rest

Not with Welter on the field...he might as well don the opposing jersey.

Honestly, not really.

For all the crap Chavis is taking, we quite simply have NOTHING in the middle on DL. Combine that with the fat our MLBs are Welter(worst LB I've seen at LSU starting) and Beckwith(MEH), and you have a recipe for a long defensive season.

Sadly, it actually appears our DBs are pretty good but they have to cover people forever because of no pass rush AND, they have to pay WAY TOO MUCH attention to the run because the guys tasked with that duty blow.

Oh. And if we've had a more over rated DE in my time watching LSU than Hunter, I certainly can't recall it.

That attempted tackle on the flat pass was a thing of beauty if you're into making comedy gifs.

It was a testament to all that is Welter. They're right. He was in exactly the right position and he exactly read the play. Then, he demonstrated that he has exactly none of the physical tools required to complete the job.

It's like playing all the right cards to get an OT-10 into bed and then dropping your drawers to reveal a 2 inch penis.

The offense could help...3 and outs don't help

I am not sure why this made me laugh so hard. Maybe because it's spot on.

We went from having future NFL Dlineman not playing until they were juniors to starting and having our best Dlineman be a true freshman.

IMO, our DL isn't gonna be any better until 2016 unless Valentine is the truth or we get some juco bodies in here.

Our current defensive lineman should be sitting the bench and learning and growing this year. Then, they should be getting some playing time as backups next year. Instead, they're starting.

There is no quick fix for young, inexperienced linemen. None.

The D-line will be incremetally improved next year, but the best linebacker (Alexander) will likely be gone. IMO, Valentine will not be a first year starter next season and be any more "lights out" than Godchaux is this season. For him to be effective, the scheme will have to be based on collasping the pocket.

What about the DEs who aren't exactly young?

Let's stop this. The defense gets manhandled with Welter on the sidelines. While Welter isn't a stellar player, to try to lay this at his feet is expected, typical silliness from our fanbased.

Hunter is playing fairly well. Lacouture shows flashes - at times. Kwon Alexander is playing well - much of the time. Jamal Adams is playing really well.

The rest of the defense... I can't say much positive because I'm not seeing it. (Before his injury, Dwayne Thomas was playing well.)

Being highly recruited doesn't mean shite on Saturdays in the fall.

These guys aren't what lsu is used to on the DL.

It's funny how people were saying how legit our defense would be during the preseason. I know we were top 20 in defense last year but lets admit it, overall our defense sucked last year and we have the same players pretty much just lost 2 tackles.

#8 in total defense, #17 in scoring defense
