I had commented on this but was quickly put in my place, being told that THIS WEEK the bullpen was great. I wasn't slamming the team at all, but merely pointing out the obvious, that throughout the year the one main issue that LSU has had has been the late innings bullpen. Even some games we ended up winning were made much closer than they could have been due to ineffective late/closing pitching. Does it mean LSU can't win it all? No. Does it mean there is some concern? I think you are kidding yourself Catholic if you believe we don't have issues there. I think LSU has its best shot in a while to make some noise, but if we are to fall short, it will probably revolve around being able to close out a game.

This is a breathtakingly accurate assessment.

First Amadeo you can't say anything on TD about the baseball team that isn't positive without being jumped by the baseball mafia.....

Next simply if this weekend was a super regional we go 0-2 and home disappointed again. Pitching is this teams weakness bar none. Can we out hit everyone and maybe win a title? Sure, but anyone that says this team doesn't have a glaring weakness when it comes to pitching is blind and/or retarded.

The baseball mafia IS wide the frick open right now.

LSU can't be beat because they are #1 in the nation and a probable 1 seed.

Didn't you know that means they have no weakness and are a shoe in for the championship series?

Having no lock down closer no doubt a problem, especially in postseason and yesterday was a good example. As good as this team is, and they are really really good, I don't think anyone felt good about a 1 run lead heading into the eighth.

I find it funny that the team with "a glaring weakness when it comes to pitching" led the sec in team ERA. But hey, I might be retarded...

I just wished our pitchers would stop walking so many batters. It seems like they walk at least 2 batters per inning no matter who is pitching. That also scares me going into postseason.

Exactly the bullpen was our strength this tournament and then surrendered two runs and all of a suddenly we they are terrible. Also ii seemed like coach was just trying to get stallings some confidence in a game that didn't matter. Do you really think at this point he would still pitch him at that point in a regional or super regional? I don't but maybe I'm wrong, While our bullpen isn't the deepest in the nation we have three relievers that pretty much any team in the country would love to have in their bullpen. We also have two or three others who are coming along at the right time so I think we will be fine. While I get the stats that we have lost some games in the last inning that really doesn't matter at this point because stallings won't be pitching the ninth in a meaningful game moving forward.

It wasn't like we went straight to him. He pitched well outside of 1 pitch too.

It gets very old reading these so called criticisms after awhile.

They are still number one and people are bitching. Nothing pleases the typical td rant lsu baseball fan or any sport

You do realize teams have won the cws without a designated closer, right?

of course they have, but both you and the OP are missing the forest for the trees a bit here. With regard to LSU's natl title hopes, the bullpen is the least of their wrries right now. Of much greater concern has to be the sudden AWOL-ness of our Friday guy and the (for all practical purposes) season-long absence of any semblance of a Sunday guy.

One of those can be worked around; both of them at the same time cannot.

Person's performance against UF was disappointing but not indicative of anything IMO. As for Stallings, I think PM wanted to give him just one last shot to confirm what he probably was already pretty sure of while it still didn't count for much. I still feel fine about Person and Bugg.

ETA: We have GOT to have the on-point Poche back. Simple as.

Bull shite. This guy makes a great point; he backs it up with thoughtful statistics; and he's dead right. If a closer doesn't emerge, this team's ceiling is lower than the championship.

So you believe after 50 games we will magically see a closer emerge?

The point is that all teams have weakness. Do you believe that our weakness is greater than the weakness of other teams in the regionals?

I am sorry. I just feel like the heart this team has can outpace the physical

At 48-10, apparently we know how to handle 7-8-9 innings.
