neither O nor miles bring x's & o's to the table. The problem with Miles was his involvement with the offense. People wanted him to hire a good offensive coordinator and let him be. It looks to me like O is going to be what we all wished miles would have been: a head recruiter that lets his coaches coach.

I don't like the hire, but it's hard to not see this as an upgrade from Miles.

Not convinced he'll hire good coordinators or not convinced he'll let them coach?

Miles had been on a merry-go-'round of death at the OC position since Fisher left. Fisher was forced on him when he took the job, so he never had an OC hire that was successful for more than one year. The bar for O to clear is very low offensively.

DC will be interesting once Aranda leaves.

If O is successful, he will have to be humble enough not to want to be paid top dollar. If he wins big and gets into the 7 million range, LSU may not be able to have the highest paid coordinators, which will have been the reason they won big in the first place.

I started a thread saying the exact same thing. He is Les Miles but without the heavy-hand in the offense

I agree with the OP.

I think a lot of the HC busts in recent times have more to do with the HC getting the credit largely for the brains of the OC or DC. If CEO can pull in recruits, do the fund raising circuit, make the tough calls, and be responsible for both good and bad I'm all for paying the Coordinators and Assistants more for their supporting roll in the day-to-day effort of the team as a whole.

Miles had everything and fked it up because of a hardass head. Hopefully O doesn't make that same mistake because he has the same or better intangible qualities
