This team would be nasty with Brady. That man could inspire a team to play defense

Yea but he's better than getting your arse beat when you have the best player in the country.

Did you just say that Trent Johnson is better than Johnny Jones?

This thread just went full blown retard.

This year is not improved over last year.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe be better than 16-10 and on the bubble with a preseason top-25 and tournament-lock team? Figure out how to stop a piddling 2-man offense? Read the rule book and realize that it IS legal to move without the ball on offense? Recruit or teach players so that they don't miss 15 free throws in a crucial must-win home SEC game against a mid-tier opponent who is 6-6 in the conference?

I'm sure there's more, but if he could just start with those, it'd be a big step in the right direction.

Archie Miller is 20-3 with a bunch of nobodies. They made the Elite 8 last year.

Then how do Florida, Michigan State, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Iowa and Michigan seem to have pretty consistent success in basketball? Hell, even Alabama, a pure football school with absolutely no basketball history or reputation, managed to find a better coach than we have. Blaming football for basketball's failure is a cop-out.

If anybody in charge at LSU had the slightest desire to have a decent basketball program, we could have one.

At that point, it's like comparing a firing squad to the electric chair. Who cares which one sucks marginally less than the other?

Brady was decent with Xs and Os, the problem is that he also inspired his players to quit or transfer.

So if they fail to make the tournament this year, he will not have improved this season. It will be.......the "decline".....

I do honestly love how some people though bring up CJJ's hollow W-L record. We were supposed to have a team good enough to get to the tournament 2 years ago, but we find a way to screw that up.

If you recall, Johnson unexpectedly left LSU pretty late in the "off season." After the Final Four. So LSU kind of got a bit of a late start on the coaching carousel. That doesn't mean they couldn't have hired a guy with better credentials than Jones, but there was obviously a large faction of Dale Brown folks pushing for him. In fact, I went to the Final Four practice on Friday when Brown let Jones coach in the College All-Star game (Whimp Sanderson was the other team's coach). Jones was hired as LSU's new coach 2 weeks later.

I genuinely believe Alleva tried to go get a "big name" guy from a power conf. The problem was that it was getting close to the April signing period and I doubt a lot of the big name guys wanted to leave that late. Once it was established that he wasn't going to get one of those guys he had to go to plan B. There would have been a full-scale mutiny of the former basketball players/booster/coaches etc. if Jones was passed over for another mid-major HC or assistant with no HC experience. At the end of the day, I think Alleva just acquiesced. Jones was always the "fall back". Otherwise there would have never been a need for a coaching search.

Below is a list of the 2012 hires.

LINK

The only ones that have done some really big things since that time are Larry Brown (also has his program on probation); Jerod Haase (starting to get things rolling at UAB) and Kevin Ollie (won national championship the next year)

Also, the "hot names" from the NCAA tournament that season haven't done much. John Groce is about to get fired at Illinois, and the Lehigh and Norfolk St. coaches who everyone on here loved, haven't done anything of note since that tournament.

For the record, I don't think Jones is getting fired after this season. However, the guy I would look at is Jerod Haase at UAB. He is starting to really build that program and has a big time pedigree - played and coached under Roy Williams at KU and followed him to UNC. Opinions vary on Williams, but he has won for a very long time in college basketball.

Have an upvote, sir!

I'm beyond disappointed by this team's performance. We've had some great moments (A&M win at home, UK win at home, Bama win on the road), but as TI says, "I don't want no mediocre."

If there is one word that sums up the 15-16 team, it is in fact, "mediocre."

I'd take a coach with John Brady's basketball IQ right freakin now.

Which isn't nearly as high as you think it is. You must not have watched his teams try to run an offense. You'd also be back to the days of half the team transferring because they were tired of playing for him. And then he'd gripe about his lack of numbers for three years. No thanks. I'll take Jones and his incompetent self over Brady and his incompetent self.
