I don't know the details of basketball like football so I couldn't tell you if he was a good coach or bad one. Is his lack of ability to coach legit or is it just being blown out of proportion? Hopefully someone with real basketball knowledge can answer.

Unfortunately yes.
In my opinion he is just his head coach was. Dale Brown
He can recruit well and motivate some less talent, but when it comes to x's and o's he is lost

No he is not a bad coach. He is not a great coach either. He is a middle of the road coach. Will have good games like last night and bad ones like Monday night. He is a great recruiter which can mask a lot of coaching deficiencies. I believe he is a great coach for LSU at this time. He absolutely loves LSU basketball and understands what he has to do to succeed here. It's more of a salesman than a coach at LSU. Have to sell the program to recruits and fans. Football and baseball the fans and recruits will show up no matter what.

Is this not part of coaching? If it is then you can't say he is a bad coach. He is a good coach with deficiencies. Yes his x's and o's can come up short but that is just part of coaching.

You are correct. Should have worded it better
Some things he's good at
Some not so much

his team's lack of fundamental defense technique bothers me the most. The offensive side of the game gas evolved in to for the most part two/three passesand shoot it, or fast break and secondary break. But defense can be taught and will win you games when the shots aren't falling. Get everybody on the floor and we can be good offensively.

Depends on what you define as bad…

Do you want Coach K or Calipari? He's not them. He's also not Trent - and that's good.

The kids for the most part love him, he's a savvy recruiter, and he's an emotional motivator.

He does get lost in the game, and with getting the right combos of players on the court at the same time.

Treloar would have been so huge for this year's team it's sick…he fortifies Johnnie's weaknesses.

Hopefully, his bench asst's. can help do enough to help him as the season progresses.

I am not defending the defense at all they have been bad, but LSU will give up a lot of points because they play up tempo which gives the other team more possessions. The key statistic is defensive efficiency which has not been good the last three games, but i believe Hornsby and Victor can help that a lot.

Coaching really shows on set plays / inbounds plays. Compare and contrast LSU and their opponent during the game. It's really eye opening. It became a running joke last night that NFU would score shortly after it inbounded the ball.
