Is it weird that coaches always refer to themselves as "we"?

I've often thought it sounded stupid. But it seems to be universal.

Maybe because there are very few decisions that get made by one person. A lot goes into what we see on Saturdays in the fall.

It's not a hard concept to grasp. They're simply fostering a "team" mentality.

If they say "I" they come off as a d-bag taking credit for everything.

if you're talking about the "we" when he says "we're coming down here ready to be a part of the lsu family" etc... i think he's talking about his family. the other "we" is the team

Good coaches try to lead by example - in speech and action - and functioning as a team is a big part of what they are trying to get across to the players. Hence the "we".

When you want a group of 18-22 year old young men to buy in to a team mentality, you don't say I when talking about football

Which would make sense if it was the same team/staff following coaches around everywhere. But that's not the case.

it's always noticeable to be when (true) leaders refer to their team as "we" when inferring, and then use "I" when there's a mistake.

The buck stops with him!

Yep. This is how I work. I very rarely refer to myself unless I screwed something up. This is pretty normal for people who aren't douchebags.

What's weird is when your talking to a fan and He/She says "We" as in they're playing!

Not at all, any team player does that. I get more concerned when it is all about me and I.
