What could possibly change after 5 games? It is what it is. The scheme better change because this read first zone defense is not working with this group of kids. Maybe we just a soon bite the bullet and let them play man to man coverage and take our lumps with that.

I think there will be significant improvement at some positions and insignificant improvement, or worse, at others because of personnel. There are players with the physical skills and bodies ready to contribute at linebacker and defensive back. The players need more experience. Unfortunately, I don't see those same on the defensive line. The freshmen just do not appear ready to make significant contributions. The wear and tear of the season will take its toll on the LSU defensive line. I think we have already seen it in Anthony Johnson. He is nicked up, and not nearly as effective this season as he was last year playing fewer snaps per game.

This is what scares me

I think our D will improve and improve by a lot as the season goes. But to compare last Sat to WVU in '11 is not a fair comparison. Against WVU we got a big lead and it was largely a case of controlling the clock and not giving up quick scores. Yardage wasn't going to hurt us. Sat, we were never more than 1 score ahead (IIRC) and every possession was critical. Point being, '11 could afford to give up yards. Last week couldn't.

I agree that the WVU game was different from the UGA game, but I'm pretty sure LSU was worried about the yardage they were giving up to WV when it was 27-21 with 1:00 left in the 3rd quarter, when LSU wasn't controlling the clock on offense and they gave up two quick 2:00 minute scoring drives to WV. I don't know how that yardage wasn't hurting LSU. Thankfully Mo Claiborne returned a kickoff for a touchdown right before the start of the 4th quarter. That totally deflated WV.

The 2012 defense, which was loaded with NFL talent, gave up over 460 yards of offense last year to Ole Miss and a terrible Arkansas team. Nobody complained about the defense then because LSU won those games and nobody would be complaining this much about this year's defense if they beat UGA. Point is you just have to give credit to the opposing offense sometimes and move on. LSU may not have the caliber of defense this year as some of those in recent years but it's better than what we saw Saturday.

4 games the D line did nothing and the CB's were beat on multiple long passes in pretty much every game

There you have it. Get down from the press box and slap some backsides or chew some arse on the sidelines. Just seeing the Chief on the sidelines would pay immediate dividends. Chief, come on down!

I expect some improvement but no way do I expect what we had in 2010 and 2011.

so far the numbers are looking 2009ish.

I can't wait for the next game to be over so everyone will shut up.

Geesh. You'd think we were 0-5 with all this talk.
