I was just looking at Frank's career & noticed that they've obviously had a pretty good professional relationship over the years. Frank's first year playing at Nicholls in 94 was Coach O's first year coaching there. I think Coach O probably got to know Frank pretty well while he was recruiting for USC from 98-04 and Frank was coaching HS Football in New Orleans.

Then Coach O hired Frank to his first collegiate job while they were at Ole Miss from 05-07. They reunited again working together for a year at Tennessee in 09 with Lane Kiffin. So, they had a working relationship for about 10 years before Frank finally got to LSU.

They got to work together for a yr at LSU from January 2015 to January 2016 and put together the #2 recruiting class in 2016.

If you say so, I would say he learned alot from Ed from 98-07.

I'm sure they learned from each other and other coaches as well.

JEEBUS.

Almost everyone who is good at ANYTHING learned a lot from others.

That one becomes excellent is because of that person’s abilities, willingness to learn, and work ethic.

Frank is good on his own but he probably learned a lot from Coach O. O is a helluva recruiter. This board might not give him the credit he deserves for that (until 2020 when he took a ride on the crazy train).

I never thought O should be the head man and said when he was promoted it could be bad if he fails that we lose a recruiter and miss on head man.

Very thankful for 2019 and thought I was wrong about O but then he got satisfied, got divorced, had a mid life crisis, and jumped on the crazy train.

I don’t think we will have to worry about that with Frank. We will be more than fine with Frank.

When coach O was working, he could do some good stuff. I'll leave it at that.

BTW “alot” is NOT correct. “ a lot” is. Now, I forevermore expect that you will give me credit for what you learned here today.

I’m not sure why just because he eventually failed at LSU people have this revisionist history of Coach O.

He was a terrible long term head coach but he still was a great recruiter especially when he was a position coach so if he did learn it from O then he learned it from one of the best.

Pretty much. People that are very smart generally just cobble their knowledge from other peoples writings as well.

Everyone learns from someone else.

Most people feel CEO was a good recruiter, so it could be linked to those relationships. But claiming or making a statement that someone is good because of someone else is not correct.

I think you answered your own question.

He coached hs ball in New Orleans. And then for the state university and hour away from New Orleans.

That’s like asking if someone is a good salesperson because their coworker is a good salesperson. There’s not some trick to being a good recruiter that can be taught, you can either sell water to a fish or you can’t, and Frank can. This may be a top 5 dumbest, most insulting thread I’ve been on TD

Frank Wilson is a good recruiter in his own right. But make no mistake so is Orgeron. Together they were able to do quite well in getting young talent. We’ve moved into a different era regarding recruiting, I hope coach Wilson is up for it. Anyone who thought we wouldn’t have a major deficit to overcome in recruiting once coach O left was kidding themselves. There’s still time to recover somewhat this year.

O was a great recruiter, but not necessarily a good evaluator of talent. He was highly successful when he went out to get a player he was told to go get. The problem was, when he was the one who was making the decision on what players to go get, he wasn't that successful. This is the downfall of many programs, they recruit off of the rating system without truly evaluating the player.
