I think its best if someone is there to speak with the qb reguardless, but does this mean that BG will be calling the plays or strongly advising? I mean Miles wanted a new OC last year when he knew his job os on the line, what is everyones take on this? Maybe I am reading too much into this.

My guess is that Crowton is on a hotter seat than Miles at this point. BG left UF because he was pissed that he got passed over for the OC position after Mullen left. No way does he just make a lateral move within the SEC without being promised something.

What that something is remains to be seen.

But I would guess that, if the offense finishes in the same spot it did last year, then BG is the new OC...if Miles is retained.

I agree...Gonzales is OC in waiting. Rummel hope life is treating you well. Lynn thinks Nebraska kicks arse. We'll see this year.

All is well. I hope the same for you.

NU should be pretty good...

On topic:

I can't wait to see what BG has done with the passing game. I've heard nothing but good things.

simply shielding our QB's from the Wizard of Predictability alone will be an improvement

I love this dude's intensity.

I hope he's worked on the WRs a lot and has improved the passing game to at least a consistent level.

Kind of an insult, isn't it? Giving control to a "receivers coordinator" to call plays? I'm all for it, but why keep Crowton around if he doesn't even have the final say in his own offense? I know other HEAD Coaches call their own offense, but that's a bit of a different case. Like I said- I'm on the bandwagon for it, but why hold on to an unsuccessful play-caller if he isn't really necessary..?

Because Les just gave Crowton a raise, and he's got a significant buyout. Not saying that is definitely the reason, but it's a possibility that has been rumored.

You don't really think it works like that, right?

No, not just like that. Let me rephrase...Les recommended that Crowton get a raise to the Board of Supervisors who approved it last year.

Do you know if that happened before, or after, the season?

Because if it was after, then Les AND the BOS need to be shot.

I'm pretty sure I remember that happening for a couple of coaches during the season last year. I think I recall the talking heads on 1210 bashing LSU for approving the raises amid the cuts that were looming. If I remember right, Stud got a raise too.

ETA: yep, it was during the season last year in October... LINK

quote:

The pay hikes include raises for the football team's four offensive assistants, including offensive coordinator Gary Crowton.

Crowton's pay would go up from $400,000 to $450,000. Assistant head coach and running backs coach Larry Porter would jump from $240,000 to $300,000, offensive line coach Greg Studrawa from $175,000 to $230,000 and special teams coach Joe Robinson from $170,000 to $220,000.

ETA2: nevermind, that was October 2009.

Now that you mention it...

I think it was before the season, though. I think.

Do the assistants get paid out of TAF, as well?

'Cause, if so, then the budget cuts have nothing to do with it.

Yea, I know, I just remember the controversy because "football coaches were getting raises while education was getting slashed" arguments were plentiful. Most people don't understand the difference in the source of the salaries.
