Interview with Ross Dellenger on College Sports Radio (Harris Comments)

Ross had numerous points about the issues we face on the OL. Mainly that KJ Malone and Pocic did not communicate well and thats where most to all pressure came from and that if they improve communication the OL will improve....
That being said we move to Branden Harris - They talked about will Les swap Qbs and Ross D said it would take a lot for him to do that based on past times he has done it. Said with Harris he has the tools but its all upstairs/mental issues he is dealing with and not settling down and not relax...Ross also stated "Do we really need a qb that has a shotgun arm or do we just need a game manager that will complete the 7 yard pass with accuracy and consistency like Danny Etling would"
After watching the game its clear that Harris is not comfortable with whatever they ask him to do...He seems to overthink and is not relaxed...He does better on plays that has him rolling out the pocket (not rushed out from pressure)... What is the rants thoughts i will hang up and listen

This... We have a great RB tandem. We just need someone that can manage the team at the line, consistently make these 10 yard passes under pressure and occasionally connect deep. 60% completion and over 200 yards a game is ideal.

Sounds like the same issues numerous other les miles qbs have had. Why would etling be different?

The passing game is based off vertical stretches and concepts that feature deep passes. Brandon has the best talent and skill set to execute these plays.
If we went away from Air Coryell this may be a different answer. I think Don is rolling over in his grave over how inept the offense looks running these concepts as it is. But we all know the coach is yammering about the execution and pinning it on players, and not the coaches.
So I doubt any shift occurs.

I completely agree with you...one of the big points in the interview that Ross made was that Les is stubborn and has admitted it but the comment in bold stood out to me. Why? Because Alabama has been doing this for years and years. Game manager that is consistent and it has boded well for them

I think the issue is the scheme has to be executed perfectly to work decent...
too much thinking going on versus Playing the game
Zero creativity in the scheme or play calling
No TE calls
No throwing the backs in the backfield calls
No roll outs
No QB keepers in Zone read option plays...Harris never keeps it!
I could go on...

I assume you didn't watch the game bc we did all of that except the zone read.

Harris isn't the problem. Les is the problem.

Our only success at QB was a guy who had 1 class his final year and spent all his time in film study. This system doesn't work.
It isn't Harris or the countless other QBS we trashed on this site for 10 years
