Links and selected comments. I ain't thrilled with this hire either but he is a Tiger now. Let's get on with it.
First, a bunch of Bama fans CAN'T laugh:
Tigerdroppings and Bama Fans Defense of Steele
The Chavis and Steele connection. This is pretty good.
Never more than a phone call away....
"Kevin Steele has a background of running both a 3-4 and 4-3 defense. "
Clemson's Initial Lookie
"I think you cannot properly evaluate a defensive coordinator until after his 2nd year installing his system, and the system was quite complicated. We had 3 years of it and noticed a substantial decline in some areas, while some were just the one bad year."
Clemson ain't happy anymore
Steele was making $702,000...more than Kiffin.
$$$$$$
And to rub salt into the wound...or a lesson on how to hire a DC.
"Coordinator Kevin Steele was quickly fired and Swinney went top-dollar to get his choice — veteran Oklahoma coordinator Brent Venables.
Swinney nearly doubled Steele’s salary in making Venables the highest-paid college assistant at the time with a $1.3 million annual salary to fix the Tigers’ broken, battered and demoralized unit.
Through the middle of this season, Venables is earning his pay.
Entering Saturday’s game at Memorial Stadium against No. 5 Florida State (5-0, 3-0), the third-ranked Tigers are 25th or higher in 13 NCAA defensive categories, and 10th or higher in nine of them. Clemson leads the nation in third-down conversion defense (.237), tackles for loss per game (10.2) and sacks per game (4.0)."

Same high school team. Helped Chavis become a coach at Tenn. Talk all the time.
Did we replace Chavis with another Chavis type?
