Everything I keep reading or hearing from the national media says that the defense got manhandled by Florida. Admittedly, Florida ran down their throats for 2 drives, but did any of them actually watch the rest of the game? Florida had a total of about 230 yards the entire game. 140 of that came 2 drives. They only had 40 yards at halftime, and it was Florida who couldn't do anything. Florida's passing game was shut down. The defense gave everything they had until the offense's 3 and outs, untimely turnover(s), and injuries overcame them. Even then, they were able to regroup and keep it a one touchdown game until the end.

But that doesn't make for a good article.

Best of luck Saturday. I hope you win and get back in the top 5 come November 3rd.

Agreed. They werent manhandled, they were just on the field 80% of the game and got tired.

No, it doesn't. I've just never seen an offense get so much credit and a defense get so downplayed for only gaining 230 yards in a game.

Typical Enquirer-esque national idiots.

If OBJ hangs on the long pass, we at least go up 9-7 if not 13-7 and it may have been a different game.
Even at the end of the first half. If we run behind Copeland 3 times instead of trying to get cute, we lead 10-0 at halftime.......

not only that, but UF ran alot of misdirection and stuff outside the tackles to wind our defense even more.

This is a good place for a question I've been thinking about since Saturday. First off, I've never played on a football team so if this is a dumb question, flame away.

Florida had almost 2:1 ration in TOP and everyone says our defense was gassed. Why then, is Florida's offense not just as tired since they have been on the field just as long?

Is it less tiring to play on offense?
Is it just the winning and getting first downs driving the tiredness away?(this is my assumption)
More personnel changes?

Yep. UF's playcalling during that stretch was fantastic. It took advantage of LSU's linebacker injuries and the fact that he defense had been on the field the entire game.

Yeah, they manhandled themselves. It wasn't anything Florida did that couldn't be overcome by playcalling or execution.

Defense is so much more reactionary and defenders are normally in a chase position as opposed to offensive players who are working assignments in a somewhat static position. Additionally, the defense isn't dictating the pace at which the play on the field moves.

You run right at the teeth of a defense for 4 quarters and tell me how easy it is.

It is definitely less tiring playing on offense, because on defense you are taught all 11 players run to the ball on every play. On offense this is not true, once the play is past you or to the opposite side you pretty much stop whether it is right or wrong.

And yes as you get pumped up and adrenaline is running you catch your second wind, but if you are giving up multiple first downs you become depleted.

Also on Offense you are usually subbing in different personnel for various packages and formations, while also trying to keep your players fresh.

The lack of an LSU offense beat the LSU defense.

The way it was explained to me is the offense knows what direction the play is going, hte defense has to react so they are more prone to get worn out

Yes. Offense knows the play. They know where its going, and only 1 guy has the ball at a time. D is about reacting to what the O is doing, fighting over blocks, beating the O to the spot, and everybody is going after the ball. we are lucky at LSU to have depth at the DT spot. Most teams use the same DL for most of the game. And, there are diff offensive formations that use less skill players and more OL and formations that have 4 WRs with only 5 OL. Diff formations have diff personnel in the game, giving players breaks. On D, you sub in DBs for LBs. Thats really it. Again, we are lucky to have some DL that we can rotate in and give those guys a break because DL is the hardest working group on the field

Plus, when the D is on the sideline and offense is on the field and they watch or offense go 3 and out time after time, its gotta kill a little bit of the spirit and attitude that our D has.

Just like 1/9, they saw the ineptitude on offense. Drive after drive of that crap ate away at there "want" to compete.

I like our D...in spite of the injuries, and loss due to the NFL, they are still very strong. However, this D cannot carry a time like last years unit could. These guys need a little more help from the O that they are not getting.

They only gave up 10 points so they didnt get man-handled. But yea they are bound to give up points when they are on the field for what seemed like 3 quaters. Those points and yards given up by the defense are on the offense
