Imagine if the roles were reversed, Oregon in the SEC and LSU in the PAC 12. LOL

It must be nice to play in such a cupcake conference. I can easily see how USC had such good records for that 4 or 5 year stretch. Teams like Bama, Florida, Auburn, and LSU play in such a "murders row" conference and still win national titles. Oregon has to worry about what? Stanford? They have been good one year. Or they have to worry about the Civil War LOL against Oregon St.

I'm just curious, as I sincerely do not know the answer, did anyone else in the SEC beat TN last year by a larger margin of 48 to 13? In TN or anywhere else?

I seem to recall your very own LSU needing a mulligan to beat the same team.

Also, do you happen to know the record for SEC vs PAC10 in the BCS era? Wins and Losses?

The Southeastern Conference has done much to silence college football's eternal debate about which conference is the toughest. Three national titles in a row have its fans screaming "S-E-C!" after every significant non-conference win. But, top to bottom, is it actually the best conference?

FIVE IN A ROW NOW! This is 2 years old.

By one measure, the answer is no. Since the 2000 season, the Pac-10 has the best record in games against the other Bowl Championship Series conferences (81-62, a .566 winning percentage). The Pac-10 also has a .500-or-better record during this period against each of the other five major conferences. The SEC ranks second among the six BCS conferences with a .528 mark, while the other four conferences are all under .500. Bringing up the rear is the Big Ten with a .475 winning percentage.

The Pac-10 often gets little respect from fans and media. The conference's teams were a miserable 2-6 against the Mountain West last season, and this season Oregon lost decisively to Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference in a key early matchup. Critics say the conference would be nothing without USC. But even without the Trojans' 19-3 record against the other BCS conferences since 2000, the Pac-10 would still be above .500.

As for the Big Ten's poor showing, there are some mitigating circumstances. Since 2000, Big Ten teams have had the misfortune of playing (and losing) eight games against USC, which hasn't faced a single Big East team during this span. Also, the Big Ten annually plays several bowl games in enemy territory, including the warm-weather Rose and Capital One Bowls.

West Is the Best

Including bowl games, here are the win-loss records this decade for the six major college football conferences when playing against one another, through Saturday:
BCS CONFERENCE W L WIN%
Pac-10 81 62 .566
SEC 94 84 .528
Big 12 81 85 .488
ACC* 99 108 .478
Big East* 77 84 .478
Big Ten 84 93 .475

*Includes the win-loss records of whichever teams were in the conference in any given year

EDIT: CURRENT RECORD SINCE THE BCS ERA IS 12 TO 10 Pac10 wins over SEC.

I am not arguing Pac10 is better, you cannot with the 5 championships in a row. However, it gets tiring of hearing how supposedly lousy the pac10 conference is when over the last 13 years they've won more head to head match ups verses the SEC.

Nah, look at my EDIT. The fact is, the Pac 10 is 12 and 10 verses the SEC since the BCS era (1998).

The SEC can boast of having the best team the last several years, as the crystal trophies do not lie. I am merely proving a point that the PAC10 has held its own when playing SEC teams.

You do realize that the SEC bowl tie-ins are usually against competition from other BCS conferences that are ranked HIGHER than the SEC teams... right?

•SEC #1: BCS Championship Game OR Sugar Bowl
•SEC #2: Sugar Bowl OR other BCS
•SEC #3 vs. Big 10 #2 (Capital One)
•SEC #4a (East) vs. Big 10 #3 (Outback)
•SEC #4b (West) vs Big 12 #2 (Cotton)
•SEC #6 vs. ACC #2 (Chick-Fil-A)

UT was a total mess at the beginning of last year and improved dramatically as the year went on. Regardless, OU was very impressive and LSU played like dogshit. If you compared just those two performances, I'd of said Oregon was hands down a better team, but that's not the whole story. Whatever, the outcomes were the same.

I don't think people really believe the Pac 10 has been total garbage, but it's largely been a 1 team league with one or maybe 2 other ranked teams and it has lacked the top heavy big boys like the SEC and even Big 12.

That's the where the criticism comes from. If you are in the SEC you have to beat 3-4 "A" teams and 2-3 more "B" teams. The Pac 10 has been 1 "A" team and 5 "B" teams.

Oregon has beaten 4 top 10 teams in the last 10 years (at the end of the year). While you obviously have a good program and this may be your year, to this point you just don't have the resume and respect.

The spirit of the post was this...

I'd much rather have to play the PAC 12 teams week in and week out rather than the teams in the SEC and I think you would too QueefAddict. Sorry, QUACKaddict

Don't forget Marajuana is legal in Oregon! Step away from the bong and realize TOP to BOTTOM the SEC is the best conference. Other conferences best may be able to hang with the SEC, but our worst destroys your decent teams.

He doesn't want the facts. It's not like this statistic means anything without some context. These aren't bowl game matchups of quality team versus quality team. I've looked at every single one of those 22 games. There's a whole lot of quality teams beating up on poor teams.

2 poor MissSt teams took losses.
2 Bama teams took losses: bad '00 team & evenly matched close game loss in '01.
USC beat up on '02 & '03 Aub & '05 & '06 Arky.
USC combined record? 46-6. Aub/Arky? 31-20.
So that's 8 SEC losses for those scoring at home, with just 1 realistic matchup.

Where are the other 4 losses? '06, '07, '09, & '10 UTenn.
-14 to Cal, -3 to UCLA, -4 to UCLA, and then the 2nd half smack down from Oregon last year, -35.

What about the other side of the W/L column?
LSU - 5-0.
UGA - 2-0.
Tenn got it's lone Pac-10 win against Cal.
Auburn beat a 6-6 WashSt team by 26 & won the MNC by 3.

If you're trying to use any statistic you can get your hands on to convince yourself that the Pac is better than the SEC. Sure, use this stat to make you feel better, but you should know that it's just an illusion.
