Ike's projections are starting to get....

scary. Cone of probability has NOLA dead in the center. I know it's a ways out but these predictions are becoming more and more reliable as technology gets better. Looks like it will hit late next week.

Another bad thing is that it looks like conditions will be favorable for this one to be huge wherever it makes landfall. It will be especially bad if that eye does not pass over land on Cuba. That will uprgrade these projections since they assume that Cuba would make it less intense.

It is my impression that the Gulf hasn't recovered from Gustav enough to handle a 4 or 5 storm to landfall.

No, it hasn't. If that storm follows its path it could flood NOLA again and entering Lake Pont. would allow it to stay strong up into S. Mississippi. A direct hit to NOLA or Biloxi would be a death blow in my opinion.

The cone has been moving westward with every tracking update, expect this to continue as the storm is still move SSW at this point

No, we don't but these forecasts are getting more and more accurate every year. The thing is that they will have that path tied down pretty close by Monday.
