If we lose a close game, I'll still be proud of this squad.

If LSU keeps the game close, takes it into the fourth quarter, and loses by a touchdown or less to the defending national champion, I won't be bitterly disappointed.

Only one result will really enrage me: a blowout loss. I don't want to endure another game like the 2008 contest. And I don't think I will have to. This team is better coached on defense. This team is more talented and mature in the secondary. Our linebacker play has improved. This team commits fewer turnovers.

I just want to see LSU compete doggedly and execute well, especially in Tiger Stadium. The worst aspect of last season was the spectacle of watching teams score fifty points on our defense.

A close game will prove to a lot of doubters that LSU is a legitimate power once more. A collapse on national TV will do the opposite.

I can't believe how far LSU has fallen. From a championship two years ago to "man I would be so proud if we only lost by a little bit at home." WTF?

LOL. All I am saying is that I will be proud of the team if they have a close game with the defending national champion.

I am definitely NOT conceding the game!

This post should be banned because it's really a flame against the LSU football team.

Or, on the request admin list, they add a "post was made during menstrual cycle option".

It's not a flame at all.

I am merely stating that a close game against Florida will be a strong signal that our team is improving and building towards a successful season.

Damn, I didn't really expect this to be a conteoversial opinion!

I want to win. Hell, I even predicted that we would in another thread.

How can you say this not knowing how the team plays? If they play lights out & lose a close game, I can agree to a certain extent. But if they play like they have most of the past year & half, whether they lose by a little or a lot is pretty insignificant.

I guess I was assuming that we would have to play fairly well to have a close game against the undefeated defending national champion, which is supposedly one of the most talented teams in the nation. I can't imagine that we would keep the game close if we played terribly. Unless they did too for some unforseeable reason.

Like playing poorly say, because their backup QB was making his first ever start?

But the point of my original post is that LSU is supposed to win these games at home, LSU isn't supposed to lose, by a little or by a lot, and then be proud of the effort. Two years ago LSU was the national champion, what changed so quickly?

We can be proud (or not proud) of the way they play AFTER the game. Right now, we should want nothing but victory...and not a freakin' moral victory.
