So just a hypothetical...

Assuming we finish 10-2
+ Herman is onboard

1. What becomes of Coach O?

2. Regardless of HC, what draft eligible Tigers return for 2017??

At USC they offered him a position as an assistant, and he was so hurt that he resigned. I imagine it would be similar here.

1. O leaves, unfortunately. And if I'm Houston, I hire him.

I won't even try to answer #2 but Coach O would most likely not be here if we finish 10-2 and he does not get the job.

Don't think he's coming. To many easier well paying jobs out there for him in less competitive conferences.

If we finish 10-2, we are going to Atlanta. I would not be envious of Alleva having to make that decision. The fanbase and players would have absolutely fallen in love Coach O by that time. He would have earned his shot. But you can't go after Herman now, not give it to him, and expect to ever get him in the future.

O will not take a demotion back to D-Line coach. He will go get a head coach spot somewhere if it turns out that well for him.

ETA: If Joe Alleva has already came out and said that they are giving Coach O fair consideration for the head coach spot after this year, he goes 8-0, and we don't give it to him, then Alleva should be fired. I don't know how you can say that, get absolute perfection from the interim, and go away from him.

Texas is getting Herman. We might as well come to terms with it now.

I also believe O felt lied to by the AD. I'm pretty sure he was under the impression that if he met these requirements, he had a very good chance at getting the job and UCSe went another direction.

Hypothetical #2...

Herman is onboard

+ Aranda bolts for a HC gig elsewhere.

Does Coach O assume responsibilities as Defensive Coordinator

Or do we lose both (Worst Case)

Some competitive coaches don't want "Easy."

They thrive in challenging situations. (Like coaching at LSU/In the SEC)

I can think of 6 million reasons why Tom Herman would want to come here.

Problem is, I can also think of 7-8 million reasons why he would prefer being the Head Coach at the University of Texas.

If we finish 10-2 then it would be criminal to not hire Orgeron!!!

Heck, he would officially be given a permanent HC title after we beat Bama.
