This. Maybe these guys were contacted and we just didn't hear about it, but I suspect this is not the case. You have to at least reach out to these types of coaches. You never know when they are having issues with the administration and are looking for a new spot even if their already at a big program.

After Fisher was out was hoping for Herman but knew Texas had him if they wanted him. After that was getting warmed up on Gundy but always thought Mullen would be the escape route guy if all else failed. Was shocked and irate when news broke that we were likely hiring Orgeron. There was 0 reason to rush the hire after Herman played Alleva. He could have interviewed a couple legit coaches the next week since the regular season just ended.

So crazy that I'm seeing Fleck's name pop up so much in this thread; i swear i didnt see his name on multiple boards that i lurk on when our coaching search was in full swing last yr, and I couldn't figure out why... think he woulda been slam dunk, we'll never know.

Nah, take a chance on Aranda before Wilson. Also, at the time Lincoln Riley was still available. Idk if they knew that Stoops was going to step down behind the scenes, but he should have been contacted as well.

They literally told Gary Patterson "no" when he asked for an interview. Not saying he was guy, but to tell that guy no tells you where their heads were.

Alleva was always going with Orgeron.

I think we would have gone for Fedora. If Miles hadn't hired Orgeron he wouldn't never been a candidate to begin with. I think that's what really bothers me. We didn't go after anyone we really wanted and just settled because we wanted a date to the prom.

Yes... Orgeron was the best we could do. We had no other choices. I am amazed Syracuse passed on him two years ago.

You people that think he was the best and only choice we had are pretty dumb. No we couldn't get Saban or Meyers. I think had we acted earlier we could have locked up Herman. Strong would have been given another year and Herman would have been all LSU by the time he left. Even if he left LSU for Texas, we would be better off. We could have had a number of good D1 coaches... Gundy, Fleck, Rodriguez come to mind immediately. Peterson for 4.5 million would have considered LSU. Many good top assistant coaches would have been a better selection. We hired a man that went 10-28 as a HC and lost the Fl game in 2016.

We are idiots and will get what we deserve. I knew on Black Friday 2016 it was gonna be bad. I am surprised how quickly things have declined.

Correct. Everything else was dog & pony.

Miles was forced to hire Orgeron.

I'm not sure if saving money was their reason for hiring orgeron, but to not interview at least 3-4 other candidates is a travesty. This is no doubt a top 10-15 job that many coaches would die for.

Seriously, after Alleva missed on HERMAN and Jimbo, who was next and would they have been a better hire?

Only give names of realistic hires. No saban, Meyer ECT

Any coach NOT named Saban or Meyer who has compiled a winning record as an FBS head coach. That's the FIRST box you need to check off. Is this real life? What kind of a question is that? C'mon man.

I thought Patterson was married into TCU royalty.

Yeah there was a decent bit of people that were banging the drum for fleck. I was intrigued with him but didn't think lsu was ready to gamble on him. Then again I thought Orgeron had absolute no shot after losing to Florida.

There is no link. And to be fair Patterson could have had no interest and jut wanted to use interview to leverage TCU. But Alleva told him no thanks we have our guy.
