That's Randle's responsibility to block that guy. If their CBs are press to start the game, then u probably want to go with something else. But if they're back a couple yards, then it's on.
I can see a quick throw to start the game but not you're nutty play. There's no way we're running something we've never run before to start the game. You need to get a rhythm going and that's not a way to do it. And there's potential for disaster. No thanks coach.

Drew it can be run to the other side too man. Major difference is which way the QB opens after the fake. If you run it to the left, the QB has to plant his right foot and open his body up to the left. He can't turn with his back to the line like Ponder did.

The way they ran it would work, but the way you proposed it would require Lee to do a quick 180, probably be off balance and take to much time allowing the CB to recover. Sorry, but your original proposal will not work.

My main reason for choosing that play is in anticipation of what I expect Bama to do...play up and stuff the run. counter that with play action and a quick throw into space and let your playmakers take over. It's not nutty.
Look at the upside of it. If its executed it's probably a big gain. Plus Lee always has the option to sling it out of bounds if it's covered.

I formation...
Stampley or JC lined up @ FB
Ware @ RB
Handoff to Ware with either FB leading the charge - FB meeting Hightower - plowing over him - Ware tearing off a 15 yarder....
No trickery...line up and smash'em right in the mouth. Saying...here we are...LET'S PLAY!!!!

Depends where we are on the field. Hopefully we'd be on a hash, then i'd run I-form, twins weak side, and run a double slant with the weak side WRs, a short corner route with the TE and send the HB to the flats while the FB pass blocks. Simple flood concept, but im betting Saban comes out in man so id expect to go to one of the double slants.
Im real iffy about running play actions unless we've had success running the ball. That Bama blitz could cause some serious turnovers if play action + missed block occurs

1st play vs ole miss was a naked bootleg. That play was Mauck's Achilles heel.

I'd run the picket fence.

No play action easy passes, let Lee get in rhythm with an easy hand off. It is going to be a long day offensively for both teams. I do believe that this team is made for Bama. We ran it down their throats last year, lets try it again this year. No screen plays, no fakes. Just hard nosed football. I think it is also about letting our O line feel out this Bama line. It also depends on field position and what bama did with the ball if they get it first. I like the quick pitch to Ware. The speed of the play negates their linebackers.
