If JD can improve weekly with throwing his receivers open, dissecting defenses pre snap, we will be hard to beat.

If the OL can get better week to week, we’ll be hard to beat. Any offensive success starts with them.

I agree. I suspect this team might go on a epic run this season and hurt a lot people’s feelings

Too bad there’s way more variables in play than just Daniels.

Honestly, this is the thing that he has to figure out but if he does, my god he will be something to watch. This is his only real weakness except maybe (and I am not sure this is true) some people are right that his arm strength could be a little better.

From my perspective, every "underthrown" ball I recall was looked more like a late throw where he should have anticipated the open receiver, threw to the spot the play called for sooner or thrown the pass to the place only the receiver could get to it and the defender would not have had a chance to break it up without interference. But maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see I do wonder if that will come as he gets more comfortable with his receivers in game situations.

and if the supporting cast can get better week to week. We can't put everything on Daniels. But your point is understood.

This.

If a QB doesn't fully trust his protection he's going to look to avoid the rush ASAP. Particularly a QB who is a great runner such as Daniels. Why sit in pocket and risk getting hit when he could just escape and pick up 7 yards? That mindset will change once the QB trusts his OL is going to keep him from getting hit.

After TWO games (really just one) with poor OL play people are bashing the kid for not being able to go through his progressions. He didn't do it early vs. FSU because he had little confidence his OL would protect him...and he was right. But later in the game on the final drive you saw a QB hang in the pocket and scan the field. Maybe the best example was the final play of the game where he was close enough try to run for a TD, but, instead, worked to his third WR for a do or die TD.

Daniels hasn't been perfect. But through two games he has been more than fine at QB, and someone who could be tough to stop...if he starts to have full confidence in the OL. LSU's WRs are good. The QB is fine. The RBs are probably adequate. The OL will be what makes them a great offense or an inconsistent offense.

It is downright incredible how insecure people are of Daniels. After Nuss choked, pressing too hard in mopup duty on Saturday, I don't really see anyone calling for Nuss to get meaningful 1st team snaps.

LSU has an elite receiving corps, possibly the best in the country and definitely top 3. Playing to our strengths means exploiting this advantage and getting the ball to these players.

Daniels has the athletic ability but needs to do better at taking advantage of this. Hopefully that comes with time and we start seeing that translate into 300+ yd statlines for him. Some of this will be on Denbrock and some of it will be on OL I'd imagine.

"Hey man! This here water is still wet!" lol:
I'm not so sure it's all gonna fall into place this year. Every game will be tough.
That said, the OL play on Saturday should be an indicator of where we can expect to go.
I see us with a shot in every game. Good Coaching means the Turnover/Penalties factors should be less than fatal. Maybe even strengths.
I think MSU is a bigger game for us than any other SEC game is for any other Conference team this week.

This is a dumb take. Players don't ever improve. Just ask the Rant. What happens in the first half of the first game is all that matters for the rest of your career. He is a washed up transfer who can't read defenses or throw the ball. :rotflmao:

He’s going to be running for his ever living life against top tier SEC defenses.

We are ALREADY hard to beat. Florida State could not hang w LSU for 4 qtrs if we played tomorrow. 1st game to me is just a faded memory. However, I like the way you are thinking..... +1

The OL has to get better weekly. It’s about to be the SEC stretch that will be hard on us if we can’t sustain drives. Our defense isn’t good enough to dominant a whole game like they used to. So it all starts with the OL being able to open lanes and hopefully give us time to throw for 250 a game. We will have to be able to consistently put up 30 points a week to win SEC games.

It’s his 4th season, he’s never changed the way he plays. If we’re going to get better Denbrock will have to change the offense to better suit Daniels because Daniels isn’t going to learn how to be a great passer.

this is entirely correct, Alt.

Daniels has played very well, given the OL that he has.

It's not really about the QB and RB this year - it's all about the OL. If they can protect and run block adequately, our offense will be fine.

But without protection or run blocking, even John Elway and Barry Sanders wouldn't be able to do much back there.

People will focus too much on the QB (which is natural), but he's fine. Our offense will rise or fall with the OL.

Have we talked about the defense getting better week to week? If no other teams do this, we can compete w anyone in last game of year.
