we should have played without him. His draft stock is assured; I don't think his decision not to play would have hurt it one bit.

To quit when there are games to play is unacceptable. You take you team, even depleted, and play, and play hard, win or lose.

What kind of message does this send to our kids?
1. When things become difficult, quit.
2. The star's best interests trump the team's/program's.

What would it do?

We were continually the laughing stock of college basketball this year. Better to hide in a cave than continue to embarrass ourselves

The team had already quit. You think the team would have actually played hard for the NIT? Jones lost this team and it was best just to put it down.

There comes a point in life where you cut your losses. We were getting shite on (and rightfully so) from a million different directions in the national media. By tomorrow, LSU will be forgotten about and everyone will have shifted their attention to the NCAA Tournament.

If we play again and get embarrassed, it is one more chance for the world to pile on. This season needed to end and slip off quietly into the night. Good call by all involved.

Why are people assuming that Simmons didn't want to play in the NIT? It's not fair too make that assumption.

The team was dysfunctional. They were capable of playing and beating any team in the country, but mostly they just imploded because of poor coaching and shitty attitudes.

Nice job Johnny Jones......No Más

To be fair, I'm assuming half the team not coaches wanted to play in the nit.

Team was not, I repeat NOT getting an invite to the NIT. Don't care if you think otherwise but they were not getting in.

I don't think the NIT wanted a simmons-less LSU in their tourney

If the reason the team elected to not play in the NIT is because Ben said he would not participate then they should have let him out the door and played without him. Would have looked a whole lot worse for him than LSU.

I don't see what people don't get about this.

This whole "we decline" schtick is a smokescreen designed to help CJJ and Alleva save face. No way Alleva allows them to turn down a bid if they had one.
