What was the thinking behind going for the 63 yard field goal (into the wind) on that last play. I just cannot comprehend why you would call this play. Can anyone explain it to me, please?

I think the basic idea was that if our kicker could somehow get the ball to go through the goal posts, we would get three points, and win 33-31.

it would have been more respectable to take a knee.

he was only about 10 full yards short, its sad when the head coach doesn't even know his kicker's leg strength

if you watch colt david kick pregame he nails kicks about 60 plus...i wouldnt agree with it but i see the logic..especially since arkansas sent like no one to try to block it...if the win was in our favor i think it was a possibility

I've seen David routinely boot those in warmups.

Did he not learn his lesson from the Kentucky game last year? Colt David attempted a 57 yarder and missed, how is he going to mae a 63 yarder AGAINST the wind? I still think a shot to the endzone would have been a better chance of us scoring.

The ball hit the ground about 6 yards deep in the endzone.

But we started the drive on Arkansas' fricking 45 yard line! The better question is how we couldn't get 10 yards?? Colt would have made it from 50 yards.

Yeah, but he missed it wide left vs. UK. It had the distance.

Stupid Example.

Miles says that David kick 65 yarders in practice with plaenty to spare. Wouldn't he be in the catagory of Dempsy?

I guarantee you never seen him make those kicking INTO the wind.

Just another bad decision. Maybe he felt like if JJ had thrown into the wind and not reached the end zone, the fans would really question the kids arm strength.

Either way, we would have lost unless of a miracle. The loss is more on the defense and the Co-DC's than anything else.

But his actual in-game record is like 52 or 53 yards, right?

And yes, part of the reason I finally signed up was because I wanted to get some opinions on this and I didn't see any discussions about it.
