Tiger Stadium used to be that loud( LIKE OREGON'S STADIUM) but not anymore. It seems like it has become more of a "thing to do" than real fans staying til the end and screaming til they could not scream anymore. Why is this? It is the coaches? Is it the underperformance of the team? What you say rant? LMK

This.

+

Is it the spoiled fanbase?

+

Is it the ticket price increases?

+

Is it the recent success making Tiger Stadium the "place to be seen" rather than a mecca for true P&G blooded Tiger fans

+

Is it that they've cracked down on bourbon smuggling?

+

Is it that the admissions standards have increased, and weeded out the drunked coonasses who came for a year, cheered (and vomited) their guts out in the student section and then failed out?

high ticket prices, less booze, more rules in the stadium, with tailgating, etc

We have become too commercial. That is the one thing I miss about the old days.

It's a combination of things. The fans that used to make Tiger Stadium consistently deafening got bought out. Ticket prices and TAF "contributions" forced people to give up their season tickets. A lot of the people that go now are there for the social experience. That is why the stadium started to empty Saturday in the 3rd quarter with us only up by ten. People leave if they think we're going to lose. People leave if they think we're going to win. I don't see why they even bother showing up.

The other part to equation is accessibility of the Tigers to the general public. In the 90s and earlier if you wanted to SEE the tigers play, with the exception of a few occasions, you actually had to go to the stadium. Now every game is televised. It's much easier to stay home, get tanked, watch it on TV, and skip the traffic.

Play on the field has something to do with it, but I don't think as much as other things do. Thanks Skip!

those all sound about right I just miss it badly. Home field advantage was always a part of Tiger Stadium and sadly it seems to be disappearing. I mean how can people seriously leave at the mid way point of the 4th quarter against Ar-Kansas? I was a little sick to my stomach seeing this and hearing the announcers pointing it out!!!

unfortunately I can only make it to one or two games a year cause of work and money. I live in tampa, Fl. I wish I could make it to all of them but when I am there I do not sit down.

Skooter is about as right as anybody. There are lots of answers, but his are, IMHO, right on. No question we're spoiled. It wasn't that long ago that a trip to the Chick Fil-A Bowl was the highlight of the year. We screamed at every game because it seemed like we were mostly the underdog. It's the price of success, guys. I remember the dark days. I'll take a winning season and some lazy fair-weather fans over that any day.

It was pretty f'n loud during the Arky game. And the UF game in '07 is one of the loudest in college football history.

LSU football is primarily about the tailgate now. The game is an afterthought, sadly.

you know, I find this concept of taking away home field advantage in the name of the almighty dollar perhaps in the form of less Ws fascinating.

If I were AD, Chancellor, HC, or TAF, I would use every possible modality to get the stadium filled with loud excited fans. Heck, I would even give away 100 or so per game through some fan process showing their true colors. The way y'all describe LSU is what I sensed at my first UT game a few years after their 98 MNC. Not a good comparison.
