That's a hell of a post.

We will take luck over coaching anyday.

Miles is a good person, but maybe somewhat over his head.

The rest of the season will tell volumes.

Not a fair question because we are winning right now.

I beg the differ Scoop it is a very fair question if you believe in what you are saying
Winning can be great when your winning but it never lasts as we all know. But, having character, and having a positive impact on what a young man may or may not become has much more to do with how we are graded and in the box marked character beside Coach Miles' name you can put a check mark.

The first sign its time to look for a new coach is when everyone in the conference likes the one you have. Thanks for reassuring me of my opinion!

I've thought about this issue a lot in the past. The question is, what makes a great coach? Is it pure wins/losses? Is it the what kind of character his players have when they leave the program? Is it 50/50?

The reality is, the overwhelming majority of fans in major college football care 1,000x more about wins/losses than about whether the coaches impact the lives of young men in a positive way. Actually, it may not be that fans care more, as much as they are more emotional about it.

I agree with what you say about Miles and I want him to make it. However, you cannot be the head coach at LSU, make almost 4MM dollars a year, and let the clock run out on your team twice in 10 months.

He played for Michigan for Bo who I feel certain is a hero to Miles in a lot of ways. The Michigan job came open and it was probably his dream job. However his team (your LSU Tigers) had a chance to win the NC and he stuck right by your side and probably lost the only shot he will have ever had at his dream job. He stuck by his team and led them to the NC and came home with the crystal and he did it for your team, your University, and you fans.

He has never been accused of doing anything crooked and has recruited with the best in the nation since day one.

Coach Miles is a good man and has represented LSU with class
Good post.

I hate to say it, but Scoop, you make more sense than 75% of the so called LSU fans on the board. I agree with everything you said.

Damn, I hate giving anything Bama credit for anything!

Having said that, I still hope we kick y'all's arse Nov. 6th.

Well, clearly I'm in the minority on this thread, but....

I'll "take" the win we got Saturday night in a f**king heartbeat.

I may be a naive, selfish, greedy bastard for feeling this way, but losing with honor and flawless clock management means absolute dogshit to me. Let the losers of the world bitch about that crap- give me a win.

...And I have no problem being a naive, selfish, greedy bastard as long as I get what I want- a win.

I have one thing to say about miles as well! He 's here to stay. After this season Crowton will be out of here and Miles will bring in a legitimate OC to save his arse. Just as Chavis has done, so get use to him! He's our Lesticle!

Nice post Scoop, at least with a clean program we do not have to worry about sanctions. We are 5 and 0, I'll take it. Beat the gaytors....

Yeah! I mean- clearly you, me, or anybody else knows more about football than Miles, right? We could have won 5 BCS titles already!

Hell- ANYBODY can win titles here with the talent that got here all by itself!

Thanks Scoop

I really do feel the same way about this coach...YES he makes us all want to pull our hair out sometimes but I also truly appreciate his character. Not many D-1 coaches would kick his starting QB off the team KNOWING it was going to be a tough road ahead.
I love the fact we have a great recruiting class every year and even though we don't always have the best game plan most teams still fear us!
Looking at college football today so much is put on winning we often lose sight of the fact that most of these kids will still need a good education to make it in the world because very few of them will be able to make a living at the game they love to play.

I'm hoping like the rest of the Tiger fans he continues to find ways to improve this team but honestly hope he produces better men at the end of the day than just football players.

Character is something that is lacking in this country right now and I cheer any man who does more than just teach X's & O's to a bunch of kids.

So again...thank you Scoop for you insight

If a coach has been at your school ten years and has had some success and a championship whould he be fired if the last three of his ten years look like this;

8-3
6-5
6-5-1

Should he be fired or given the opportunity to maybe hire a few different assistants and see what the results are?

What do y'all think?

Fire or let him fire and hire?

That's true. He's a good guy, but he isn't the best or right man for the job at this point. Yes, we're 5-0, but we're extremely fortunate to be so, just like last season we were pretty damn lucky to win 9 games. The luck's gonna run out sometime, and we'll probably end up losing 4 of our last 5 conference games (if not all of them). I've always liked Miles, and supported him up till the last few weeks. But enough's enough; we need and should get better coaching than what we've gotten from him the past 2+ years.

Here's my one thing to say about our Coach Miles: Things are NEVER boring with him around!

We can pay any good guy to coach this team. They're good guys. They will do it cheap.

For 3.8 million a year I want a coach that will teach young men to be destroyers of hope. I want a football team that other teams hate to play.

Scoop. I am 100% behind Coach Miles. Regardless of the Michigan coaching job. Most of us who knew the finances involved in replacing Crowten, understand the situation for now. Coach Miles and LSU needs to hire a new coordinator for the offense. Bottom line. Les will be here for at least another year or 2 at worst. But, if Lee isn't the starter this week, new rumblings will come to Tiger town.
