On 3 days rest in the MLB playoffs in p multiple times lots of years. Never really heard of any of them getting hurt or injured because of it. It was their effectiveness and stamina that were the issues. My money says at sometime tonight the big guy takes the mound. Geaux Tigers!!

Back in my day, we threw 350 pitches every 2 days, then had to go get a bale of hay for the horses, water from the well and carrots for the kids and had to carry it all back while walking barefoot in the snow on the middle of the summer.

It was the 1700s, when I invented baseball, but still. Kids nowadays are such pussies.

Nice joke but the reality is pitchers threw 150 pitches a start on the regular in the 90s. Wasn’t that long ago. For a championship skenes needs to start and throw 80-100 pitches. His arm won’t fall off.

Go check what pitchers were throwing in the 90s compared to now.

There's a reason arm injuries are much more common now days. This isn't the 90s, hence why it's so fricking stupid to compare a pitcher in 2023 to one in the 90s.

I'm not going to sit here and act like I know the answer to that question.

And I'm not saying tnat Skenes won't pitch. He has a very easy delivery that I don't think puts much stress on his arm.

That said, comparing pitchers now days to the 90s or prior is just dumb.

Bad mechanics, more breaking and curveballs, unnatural arm motions to get more spin off fastballs, etc.

I’m all for Skenes pitching if he is good to go but please stop comparing college and MLB pitchers.

It would be interesting to see how many pitchers in Japan have had TJ surgery.

I was obsessed with Nolan as a kid and read his book.

Yes they’d throw 250+ pitches a week for years and nobody knew of Tommy John. The difference is Nolan said when the season was over he went back home and worked another job and didn’t lift a ball until spring training.

Nowadays it’s year round.

There have always been guys who throw upper 90s. Some guys are just built to do that.

We've taken kids and put them in the weight room, overanalyzed the shite out of their mechanics, and manufactured pitchers who throw mid to upper 90s. They aren't doing it naturally, IMO. The kid wh should be throwing upper 80s are throwing mid 90s and pushing their body beyond its limits.

It’s not a physical thing. It’s the fact one is a paid professional that is more than likely a millionaire and the other is playing for a partial scholarship and NIL money trying to be that guy. They are not the same thing.

Cubans used to put El Duque (Orlando Hernández) on the mound three or four days in a row for tournaments. After defected to the US, he couldn’t believe how little he had to pitch in MLB.

We aren’t the Cubans.
