I don’t think people understand how QB battles work

It is often not a clean slate or a level playing field, especially when an incumbent starter is returning. I’m pretty sure any prior starting QB who’s had at the very least a slightly above average year has never lost his job the next spring. There’s simply not enough opportunities for Nuss or Howard to prove themselves enough to force coaches to bench Daniels. There will always be the “he has experience” and “we got to the SEC championship with him” and it’s the “safer option”.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with this, but Howard could come out this spring playing like prime Peyton and there all the drills and practice scrimmages in the world wouldn’t make it enough for coaches to make such a massive change. That only comes as a result of real playing time via an injury or some sort.

I say this because we have to stop being disingenuous and stop kidding ourselves that Jayden isn’t starting next Fall barring some major injury. There will be no real QB battle - that’s just not how it works.

Daniels regressed substantially at the end of the year when it mattered most in some difficult elements.

Yes there is, it’s called practice, work outs OTAs etc. it’s just assumed by some in the fan base that if the starter remains that there was no competition as if it’s beyond the realm of possibility that he actually won it.

Works like this. QB that is best option to win starts.

I agree. But it literally does not matter. Unless he completely lays an egg in the Spring, it would be require so much for coaches to just outright bench him.

He had one bad game. The defense is what regressed and everyone is allowing that to color their perspective on Daniels.

Lazy response. Coaches never think a backup who has never played real snaps is the best option. The coaches have to be convinced and they don’t want to make risky decisions, unfortunately.

that's great but its not really a good response to why he regressed. Joe Burrow got better and better in 2018.

Nussmeir and his daddy once politicked a way to start against Arkansas (a game which we win if Max starts) then later opted out the Bowl game forcing LSU to start a WR at QB. Those 2 losses led to LSUs first losing season in 21 years.

Just a reminder to those who suck him off on here…

The real battle is between second or third string. Let’s hope they get equal reps. There is no doubt in my mind JD is the penciled in starter as he should be. The loser of that battle for 2nd will transfer.

The man is right. But why are you trying to reason on here. You know rational reasoning doesn’t work on tRant

You have no idea how any of this works and are just pandering.

Get a life, loser.

THIS

I’ll never forget / forgive the opt out. Really screwed his team / teammates / the program. Bad, bratty look.
