LoL it feels like yesterday when Tennessee was telling us all this and we jumped on them and blamed their shitty teams and booed them and told them the were wrong...the 3rd and Chavis struggle was real... I'm now laughing at A&M fans telling us the same thing we told the Tennessee fans.. Ya figure someone would learn their lesson eventually.

I remember watching and just thinking "what is he doing? Why won't we go to our base 4-3?"

It made a ton of sense when I found out he was on the phone with Sumlin that morning taking the A&M job.

He didn't even try. if a team comes out with 2 TE a big RB and big QB you don't stay in a nickle package the whole game.

Look I have no problem with Chavis as LSU's DC. His overall body of work, despite some obvious problems, was good.

What we all know now is this: 1) Chavis was in contact with TAM before the bowl game including right before apparently getting Sumlin's pool boy fired. 2) Once Beckwith began starting and the improvement of Loc and DG at DT LSU had a sound defense the 2nd half of the season. After Wisky, State, and Auburn how many on here actually would have believed this. 3) Yes ND played a new QB with wrinkles in their offense. 4) Beckwith looked bad in that game being totally out of position on most runs up the middle for the first time since starting. 5) Yes the Tigers scored a TD before the half which was not allowed.

I don't think 1), 2), and 4) can be explained away so easily. A healthy ND, which they were not, would have been the worse team LSU lost a game too last year. In fact the Tigers lost to a slumping injured team with nothing to lose.

Anyway all this is behind us and we do have reasons for optimism this year.

Highly complex wrinkles that looked exactly like Mississippi State's offense. Very difficult to scheme for an offensive attack that punched you in the face for 4 quarters.

Should any coach be judged by one game in his career (Chavis game with ATM )
Signed les miles
Not a huge miles fan but body of work is there. Now if he starts destroying it (more)like Mac did in end of his career than this is just LSU allowing itself to act like lsu has with..
A Mac
B brown
C Brady

Guys that lived off of past results and got a couple of free passes at the end of their coaching careers.
Eventually setting programs backwards with those free passes.

I know that his heart wasn't with LSU that day. He was ready to leave as fast as possible.

What screwed is against ND was scoring 21 points on offense, a failed fake, and blocked FG. We scored three TDs against possibly the worst defense in all the bowl games

two losses to alabama are squarely on his shoulders

Both of the last 2 games in Death Valley were in the bag. You hate to put it all on him, but how else can it be explained?

Nothing in that statement says Chavis mailed it in. He could simply be saying they didn't make the right adjustments

I mean Bama came out in 2011 NC game playing way different on offense as they did before in the previous game... LSU made ZERO adjustments on offense or defense..... I guess that's Chavis' fault as well... Face it LSU fans.... LSU lost to the better team against ND....

The Chief plying prevent defense the last 2 games against Bama. Bama did not have but 1 first down in the second half till the Chief gave them the game with the prevent.

What in the hell does Bama's play in 2011 have to do with the LSU DC engaging in talks with another school during bowl game prep time in 2014???

I thank Chavis for his efforts while at LSU, but when it comes out that he is job searching at the same time his D is having almost 300 yds rushing ran down its throat....he has no one to blame for the shite that comes his way but him. imo

The loss was due to poor in game coaching, a hallmark of LSU football over the last decade. Whether he did it on purpose, was lackadaisical and didn't care, or was simply inept, we have seen this movie before.

The low scoring losses in his time at LSU were more on the offense not the defense .

2 of the last 3 bama games the offense did enough to have a lead in the last 2 minutes and needing a defensive stop. You have to realize that in a Bama vs lsu game points are at a premium.

Sorry, buddy. Meant to upvote your post but fat-fingered the downvote button by mistake.

I agree with those saying that you can't throw shade on an entire body of work because of one game, but the ND bowl game is a strong exception to that trend. Chavis being on the phone with his future employer a matter of minutes and hours before game time is a relatively unique circumstance, hence the unique evaluation of his in-game performance. Add to that the fact that there's an ongoing lawsuit which alleges that he broke his contract by working for A&M while still on the LSU payroll and there's little doubt that it's legit to speculate that he was short-timing it in the bowl game. It's shameful.

Chavis is a fine coach, no doubt, I'm incredibly glad he's gone, given the way things ended.
