Yeah last guy was Delpit from 2019. That's been quite a while.

This is a symptom of the new portal. Most of our DB’s are transfers that are new to LSU. It’s like starting freshmen. Granted the talent has dropped, but it’s hard for players to hit the ground running in schemes that are new to them

Can we hire Ed Reed as our secondary coach?

Can he actually coach? I know he was in line to be an HBCU head coach recently, but it felt like it was more of "we wanna replicate Deion"/ face of the program type

I'm not averse to former greats coaching, but I don't necessarily just want them getting their first college gig at a school that bills itself as DBU.

College football as a whole is weak in the backfield. The days of the big head-hunting safeties are gone, they were replaced by bigger corners converted to safeties. None of our safeties are true safeties.

Not enough man to man in coverage, they are sitting in zone waiting on the play to come to them, it's like they play prevent defense all game now.

DB room

Serious question: given that we have separate CB and Safety coaches, do they have separate rooms?

Also, who coaches the nickels?

There is a definite contingent who will call you out for whining, when you are simply stating the truth.

Here is another truth: Texas AM is more talented than us on the field, with a better recruiting class teed up

Harris played fine and Sam made some plays (even though he missed some tackles). Everyone else kinda sucks.

I think it shows how important Greg Brooks is to this defense. We are missing his presence back there big time. His leadership, he plays fast and physical and can tackle aggressively. It’s really hard to replace experience and leadership.

He was an assistant defensive back coach for the Bills for a year and he has worked in the front office for Miami for a year or two.

As a coach, I think he can teach plenty tricks of the trade and motivate players.
As a celebrity coach, I think he’d bring in plenty of top talents for the secondary.
As a person, I’ve seen him speak enough to know he cares about people and wants to do things the right way, and do the small things. You hear guys like Jha'Quan Jackson talk about what he learned from Ed Reed and that’s what I want in a player.

I don’t know how he would fit in the coaching staff and you need a strong personality to keep his passion somewhat in check. But if you could harness it…watch out!!!

I think Sage needs to be moved. Into a Greg Brooks type role.

Sage Ryan was recruited as a 5 star safety and has been asked to play every DB position besides safety

When Kelly and House crazily moved Sage to boundary corner 2 weeks before FSU, Kelly detailed traits in Ryan’s game you want from a safety.

-Physical
-One of the fastest players on the team (can run sideline to sideline
-One of the best open field open field tacklers on the team
-Can really do a nice job in man coverage (safeties get matched up on slot WRs — Malik is feasting on this now).

These were the traits Kelly said about Sage. Doesn’t that sound like someone you want at safety?

Anyway, Dashawn McBryde is a 6’3 200 pound 4.5 running physical freak safety coming in next year that will one day win the Thorpe award. So that’ll help.
