I ask this every year. Why does the 1 seed play the early game on Friday?

I believe it's a LSU thing..
Has to do with setting themselves up for having as much of an advantage the next day as possible.
Early game means longer rest between day 1 and 2. If weather becomes an issue you are getting your game in earlier, instead of maybe finishing at 2 in the morning and then turning around to play Saturday.
It's not ideal from a fan stand point, but it's smart when trying to give yourself an advantage.

LSU has done this like 9 out of 10 times. Tradition. Sets up advantageously if there are rain delays....which may happen this week. And more of a rest.

If you can afford a regional ticket book, you should at the very least be able to miss 3 hours of work.

If there is a possibility of rain on day 1, you want to be sure you get your game in , If you play the late game your team might be getting finished in the wee hours of the morning and then having to come back and play early the next day.

Paul doesn't want to have a late game that possibly goes extra innings and then have to play in the early game the next day.
