Hypothetical dilemma for Miles in Dec/Jan
Posted on 8/27/10 at 9:16 pm

Let's say Miles gets the Tigers back on track, and LSU beats 1 out of 2 of Florida or Alabama, and then wins the rest of the games except for one, going 10-2 in the regular season, and then wins a New Years Day Bowl game to finish the season 11-2.
Meanwhile, Michigan loses to Ohio State and wins a total of 7 games or less.
Under this hypothetical scenario, Michigan goes after Miles during the whole month of December, ESPN once again claims that "Miles-to-Michigan" is a done deal, and Michigan is rightful for luring him under this hypothetical scenario,
What are the odds under this scenario that Miles bolts to Michigan to save his Alma Mater?
A) <25% ?
B) 25-50% ?
C) 51-75% ?
D) >= 75% ?
What do you all think?
This is actually a very realistic scenario, moreso than many Ranters will agree...Miles would have turned down Michigan once, watched his Alma Mater disgress further, would have encoutered the fireMiles mantra for 2-3 years, and would have regained his stature as a strong national coach with 11 wins in 2010.

Who's to say that Michigan would go after Miles? There is a guy at Stanford who is probably a hotter commodity than Miles right now. If Miles can turn things around, he may gain momentum.
To answer your question: B, but closer to 30%

I think D.
If he gets the chance to go "home" again, I don't think he would turn it down.
I wouldn't.

D, It would be a win win for everyone. If it happens I'll help him load the truck.

If he's actually offered the job, I don't see him turning it down unless LSU is coming off another national championship, and even then I'm not sure he'd turn it down.

Personally, I would hope Miles takes the Michigan job. Nevertheless, how does anyone know he wants to go back to Michigan? I mean Michigan is one pretty fricked up and depressed state today. Not to mention that it gets pretty fricking cold up there.

you need to make percentages for Harbaugh.
he has Stanford in the top ten of national recruiting as of this second, for 2011.
Stanford requires national recruiting although they are in a good but not great recruiting area. Mich requires national recruiting.
LSU does not require national recruiting as Louisiana contains a FEW of the concentrations of football players on a par with any anywhere. BR. NO. West Monroe, Shreve.Bossier and the cajun parishes from LC, to Plaquemines. LA is much better recruiting than Mich, even though MIch has 3 times the people.
And while Mich goes to Ohio for half its roster, LSU goes to Tex and the gulf states for many.
I will go with 30% in your Miles scenario, but 40% for Harbaugh if he is 9-3 in the PAC 10, at a very high end academic school.

Ya, I mean, I'm not ready to run him out of here yet, but if he wants to go, fine. No hard feelings. I would want to see him do well at Michigan, same way I wanted to see Saban succeed in Miami. Miles has done well overall at LSU, but I almost feel like LSU could use a fresh face (fresh voice for sure) to give the program a jolt of energy and optimism.

Maybe if Miles took the job, then LSU could hire Harbaugh! Well, can we at least dream?

Unfortunately I have heard that Michigan is historically not at school willing to pay alot of money.
